Meaning & History
She evolved from the Sumerian goddess Ki. In Akkadian and Babylonia mythology she was the first consort of Anu. Eventually she was replaced by Ishtar. She is likely the influence for the Greek goddess Hera, and was perhaps related to Anat. Her name possibly derives from the Sumerian element an, meaning "heaven, sky".
