Meaning "sacred area", from the Celtic 'nemeto', itself from 'nemeton', a term designating Gaulish religious spaces. Nemetona is a Celtic goddess believed to be the eponymous god of the Germano-Celtic people known as the Nemetes. Artifacts worshiping her have overwhelming been found in and around their former territory. What inscriptions of her that survive correlate her to the Roman god of war, MARS, possibly meaning she was a goddess of war.
