Meaning & History
Derived from the Greek verb παρμένω (parmeno), which is a poetic form of the Greek verb παραμένω (parameno) meaning "to stay beside" or "to stand fast, to stand one's ground". The verb is ultimately derived from the Greek elements παρά (para) meaning "beside, by" and μένω (meno) meaning "to stay, to remain" as well as "to last, to withstand". Also compare PARAMONOS and PARMENON. Finally, the name Parmenas was borne by a saint from the 1st century AD as well as a biblical character mentioned in Acts 6:5.
