Meaning & History
Latinized form of Greek Τροιζήν (Troizen), which may possibly have been derived from Greek Τροία (Troia), the original Greek name for the city of Troy. Troezen might then roughly mean "of Troy". Also, the meaning of the city's name is uncertain. Troy was named for its mythical founder TROS, a Phrygian king - but the etymology of his name is obscure. In Greek mythology, Troezen was one of the children of PELOPS and HIPPODAMIA. The Greek city of Troezen was named after him.
