Meaning & History
Latinized form of Greek Θεοβούλη (Theoboule) meaning "divine will", derived from θεός (theos) "god" and βουλή (boule) "will, volition". This is said to be the source of Σίβυλλα (Sibylla) (see SIBYL) via Doric Σιοβόλλα (Siobolla). In mythology this was borne by the mother of Myrtilus by Hermes and the mother of Arcesilaus and Prothoenor by Areilycus.
