Meaning & History
The meaning and origin of the first element is rather uncertain: we know that it comes from #eutha#, but we don't exactly know where #eutha# itself comes from. But there are a few possibilities. It might come from Old Norse #jôdh# "child" or from #ehva# "horse." The element might also be related to the first element of JORUNN. The second element in the name comes from #rîcja# "powerful, strong, mighty." The second element is also closely related to Celtic #rîg# or #rix# and Gothic #reiks#, which all mean "king, ruler." Eutharic was the name of the husband of Amalaswintha, daughter of Theodoric the Great (king of the Ostrogoths).
