Description: Born a Dutchman, he represented his native country at the Olympic Games until he became a Belgian citizen in 1996, after which he would always represent Belgium at competitions and events, even the Olympic Games.
At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, he was the winner of the men's 10,000 metres speed skating competition. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he placed third (and thus won the bronze medal) at the men's 10,000 metres speed skating competition. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, he placed third at the men's 5000 metres speed skating competition.
