Description: At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, he placed second (and thus won the silver medal) at the men's 1500 metres speed skating competition. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, he was the winner of three speed skating competitions, namely: the 1500 metres, the 5000 metres and the 10,000 metres.
