I never knew that the name 'Zephyr' was as common as it is. I still think it's a good name and a cute name. My brother's name is Zephyr and his nicknames are Zeph, Zephie.

I knew this name was going to get love on this site, and I used to love it too. That was until I heard a parent yell for their kid Zephyr on the playground. It sounded totally obnoxious and changed my mind immediately. I still think it sounds cool, maybe in a fantasy novel or for a horse, but on a human, young or old, it sounds like it fits right in with the Caydens, Jaydens, Traydens and Braydens. It just sounds a bit like you’re trying too hard to be trendy and unique.
I named my son Zephyr and am so glad I did. It's such an effortlessly cool name, and it sounds so good for a young boy (possible nickname: Zephie), for a teen and young adult (nn: Zeph or Z), and also an older gentleman! I think it'll be very cool that someday he may be "Grandpa Zephyr". He could be a rockstar or a CEO and seem like a badass either way. No regrets!
I was hardly researching about names. The sickest and most badass names I found are : 1. Kyros (the best on the list) 2. Altair 3. Zephyr 4. Jaeger Zephyr is a nice name specially for a BOY. Don't like to see that on a girl. Vowel ending names are kinda better for girls. How the fk do some people feel it's girly? How?
My son is named Zephyr. My ex husband and I are pagan and my ex is Greek, and my son was born during a massive snow and wind storm so it was what he picked. I fell in love with it right away. My son is now currently two and I think it suits him well, he's very breezy and happy. We usually use Zef or Z for nicknames.

It's an absurd name for a child. Hipsters will regret it.

You can't deny that this name is absolutely badass.
My wife came upon the name because of the Greek god and I had reservations at first. But it's growing on me and after seeing an earlier comment about a monkey character named Zephir, I think we have found our 2nd boys' name. I named our first Ace :)
There was a Disney Fairy named Zephyr, and so I've always thought this was a feminine name... I still do because that was the first time I heard this name.

I am naming my son Zephyr. My husband and I grew up in Lake Tahoe and even though we've moved it will always be home and we wanted to name our son something as a tribute to one of the most beautiful and cherished places we've ever been, so my husband came up with Zephyr as in Zephyr Cove in Lake Tahoe. I was a bit offended by a negative comment by someone stating that it sounds pretentious and like the parents that would name their child this have a "god like complex" or whatever, but I know we are not those people. I am a hairstylist and my husband is an engineer, we lie somewhere between creative and professional and are very connected to nature (Zephyr means a soft gentle breeze), so I think this name fits in with us just perfect.

My sister's name is Zephyr. While most people have a hard time pronouncing her name the first few times, they usually get the hang of it after they hear it a few times. It does sound light and nice. My family has yet to meet another Zephyr besides the character in Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2.
As much as I wish that I could share a fondness for "Zephyr"... I cannot (and will not) endorse such a thing; it is simply unusable (but expected) in today's society. Beside it being overrated and undeniably unflattering to the ear, I find it to be unattractively pompous, terribly pretentious; a name with an air that would appeal to a pair of 'holier-than-thou' bombastic parents, unfortunately for their child. It is not something that supports the intelligence and prospect that the bearer likely holds-- it is something that will create an unnecessary barrier in the professional world.
@Francesca, No, childish names like Zayden would "create an unnecessary barrier in the professional world".Zephyr has a light pleasant sound, is highly memorable, and is not made-up. Furthermore, being as uncommon as it is, Zephyr is definitely not overrated. If anything, it's underrated.
Well, I'm usually all for keeping masculine names masculine and feminine names feminine... but, I think this name is absolutely lovely on a girl, and a bit girly on a boy. That aside, I like it tremendously on a guy, I think of a really handsome man with a sense of adventure. On a girl, I think of a fun-loving breezy type who's mind runs a mile a minute. And on a girl, I think Zephie (or Zeffy) and Phyra (FEER-uh) are adorable nicknames.
I think this is a really cool name, but I actually prefer it on a girl--which is odd, because it was the name of a Greek *God*. Huh. I guess that's the reverse of what happened to Artemis--people thought it sounded more masculine and used the name on men. Eh, whatever, I like it.

I am surprising myself by saying I really like this name :) for boys and girls. I also think of the Zephyr song when I hear this name, and I like the Chilly Peppers so it's all good. :)

I love the meaning of this name. It sounds so cool!
I love this name, but seeing as how Zephyr raped a nymph in Greek mythology, it's got a pretty unpleasant origin. Also I wouldn't want people to think I'd named my son after a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song (not that it's a bad song) or an old Ford. Such a shame!
It was previously stated that Zephyr raped a nymph, but actually, it was the North Wind, Boreas.Cool name, but not one I'd actually name somebody. :)

It's a kind of car. I think this is a fantastic name if you want something cool and uncommon. It's a guy's name, but I think it would be better on a girl.
