My name is also Yumi. And I live in Myanmar. That name is the most beautiful name I have ever had. And all my friends like that name.At first I called myself Yumi as you, me, and then my friends called me in the real pronunciation Yuumee. I think it is better to call it like that. People also love that name and so my parents and I do. I realised that people loved me more after I have changed my name to Yumi.
Yumi is a beautiful, elegant name and is personally one of my favourite Japanese girl names. It's very simple to pronounce. Famous bearers I know are Yumi Ishiyama in Code Lyoko and Yumi in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. I wouldn't sway away from using this name just because it sounds similar to the words "you" and "me" or because it may remind some ignorant folks that it looks like the word "yummy" (even though Yumi is of Japanese origin, not English origin!); Yumi sounds pleasant enough, the meaning is great, and the name itself is super cute! DEFINITELY is a name worth to consider! :D.
I like Yumi, and I think it has a sweet, simplistic and pleasant sound. But what I like most about it is the look of the kanji it is written with - 弓. It looks like what it means. Simple, curved, elegant and arched - an archery bow. Which makes it much easier (for me) to remember and draw than many other characters. I also like Yumi spelt 弓美 (because I find "beautiful bow" prettier than just "bow") and 夕美 - evening beauty, which I think has a mysterious and poetic feel to it.
This is a really cool and pretty name. And I love it. Only, one of the main characters from Code Lyoko has this name. And I really really really really hate that show. -grabs knife-
