In an episode of Family Guy, Peter named his new falcon Xerxes. I think it's a pretty cool name for a pet, especially one like a snake or a Rottweiler.

Opera by Handel (Serse in Italian). Contains what is probably the most beautiful tune of all time, the famous 'Largo' -'Ombra mai fu'.

King Xerxes was "different" to put it mildly. When a bridge he had built collapsed, he ordered that the sea be given 50(?) lashes; he then had the bridge builders beheaded. When one of his countrymen gave him a monetary donation, he returned the money along with a gift; when this same man asked his son be excused from the army, Xerxes had the son cut in half and his army marched between the pieces.

King Xerxes was also the man who married a Jewish girl named Hadassah. The story is contained in the book of Esther in the Bible. Also called Ahasuerus.
