Name of the title character of the Hungarian István Fekete's novella, Vuk. He's a fox pup whose family is killed by hunters and he's raised by his uncle, an experienced old fox, he shows great talent and cunning even by fox standards, and takes revenge on the hunters by stealing all their hens and geese, and freeing his sisters who was taken captive and raised as a tame fox. His old master is shot by the humans as these mentor figures are always supposed to die. Later both Vuk and his sister find their mates and everyone is happy. (In the animated film version, he mates with his sister. Ew. That's a children's tale for you.) It's basically the classical fantasy hero's journey with anthropomorphic animals, written decades before Star Wars and the like came out.
