So Esther is considered feminine but Vesper is "tOo hArSh FoR a GiRl"? Give me a break, there is barely any difference in sound between them! It's unisex. Perfect for any gender. And with a beautiful meaning like "evening star", please use it, however you like. :)
Esther is more feminine bc it is a traditional girl's name and Vesper is not? There's hardly a difference between Mary and Larry, and yet one is feminine and one is masculine. Esther has been a girl's name for 1000s of years, and Vesper has been a boy's name for 1000s, of years, and I don't see why that should be changed now.
And I do also personally find the est- sound less harsh than the vesp- sound.
Why is this boy's name being used as a girl's name? Nothing about it sounds feminine. Why not just use Esther on a girl?
(to be clear, this name was exclusively masculine and has recently been edited to be gender neutral)
Would work for a pet not a human.
As a 13 year old girl with this name I can tell you that it is an awesome name! It's pretty, and also unique! I have never met someone else with this name, even tho many people say that this name will be too trendy, I don't really mind, it's gonna be one of those names who are popular but still gorgeous! You should go for it, it's also a good name since it fits a boy and a girl very well.
This is one that I could see working just as well on a boy as it does on a girl.
I named my daughter Vesper Caroline. I've been in love with the name Vesper since I was twelve and read the Vesper Holly book series by Lloyd Alexander. I so wanted to be her for several years. When I met my husband who had the middle name Lloyd I knew immediately what I'd name a girl if we had one and after ten years of marriage we did. Caroline was after my mom if anyone was wondering. She was absolute sh*t as a parent, but the most amazingly calm and patient grandma I've ever seen. Probably because she can send them home.
