From the Ancient Greek base of θράσσω (thrássō, “to trouble, stir”)
Amusing that people post--with great authority, apparently--what they believe to be the origin of this name. They seem to be ignoring the information this very website provides on its etymology. People look at one baby name book and think they "know" what a name means. In fact, the origins of many names are disputed. And in this case, the name MAY indeed have multiple sources. You'll note that it can be said to be derived from Theresa. Obviously, this would only apply to the female name. It is also a common last name, and those are the origins that are disputed.
I read that the inherent meaning is "warrior".
Tracy is of English or Irish background meaning "brave".
