A very sweet name:)
My best friend's nickname is Tia! It is very pretty! Her real name is Ateeya but she hates it when people don't say it right. So she goes by Tia!
It is my name and I used to hate it until I found the definition for it, now I love it.
Can't wait to try the booze! Anyway, this name is cool.
In Bengali, Tia meant a type of songbird that had many different colors and was always chirping a beautiful tune. Tia birds are rare now, and it is believed that if you hear a Tia bird, you are lucky. I take this to mean that the different colors mean different facets of your personality and to me it is an exotic name. Yes, I have been teased many times that in Spanish my name means Aunt, so I wanted to stop using this name but my mom encouraged me to find out something else and now I am proud to say that my name means so many other things as well. Next time someone teases you about your name, just remember that you are a princess, a goddess inside.
My friend is called Tia and I really like the name especially as there as so many funny nicknames to call her (I'm not being mean to her, it's like an inside joke we share) it's also so easy for infants to learn. However, I would say maybe pick a longer name and then have Tia as their nickname for close family and friends. If you are debating about your name or your daughter's name etc. don't be, it's a lovely name with so many beautiful meanings. Honestly, if I wasn't called Guinevere, Tia would have been the name I wanted.
I have a friend named Tiya, pronounced the same way. I like that spelling better. Plus, it means bird in Sanskrit. Such a lovely name!
My name is Tia Rooney (given at birth) I am from the Island of Jamaica also where they have the Tia Maria Coffee Liqueur. I used to get teased a lot in school about the Coffee Liqueur but grew to love the name & coffee. I am the only Tia I know and I love that! I think my name depicts a smart, bold, courteous, loving, kind and helpful person. I was born in 1977.
This is too short and cutesy to me.
My first name is Tatiana but I go by Tia. I feel like Tia suits me a little better because it sounds more fresh / modern. The only problem is... when I tell people I go by Tia, a few people somehow distort it in their minds and call me Tatia (I guess "Tati" in a name is uncommon so it leaves a strong impression?). Other than that Tatiana complication, the name Tia carries this effortlessly cool yet strong vibe which is great- especially when it comes to meeting new people. For the people who get it right the first time (which is the majority thank god), never forget my name! I personally also just think that any name that starts with "T" is refreshing and different, hence the easy to remember bit.
Hello. My birth name is Theresa Marie. When a cousin was learning to speak she called me Tia. Now 60 years young, I always love this name. I have some friends who call me Gia, another calls me Tia Mia, another calls me Mia. Love It!I am a blessed, beautiful being, bubbly, vivacious, full of life. Met several people named Tia, surprisingly, most of them are African American and given the name at birth. My name is shortened from my birthname; however it suits my personality!I have one child, named Marco Alexander. Marco was the epidural name. Lol. Alexander was my mentor. We are both strong, stubborn, opinionated, valid, street smarts individuals.Go forward in life, never look back! Thank you.
I like the name Tia. It sounds delicate and pretty in my opinion. I have never known anyone called Tia, but in 'The Chocolate Box Girls' series by Cathy Cassidy, Summer's best friend is called Tia. All in all, Tia is cute! I would definitely name my daughter this (if I have one).
My name is Tia, I was born in 1972, I have yet to meet someone who was born with this name before 1972. I’m not referring to nicknames, I’m talking legitimately named on a birth certificate. Am I the oldest living female with this birth given name “Tia”?
My name is Tia Marie and I was born in 1957, which makes me 60 years old. I was named after an Italian actress from a western movie in the 1950's, by my mother. I am older than the Jamaican liquor Tia Maria. I've met one Greek Thea, several Italian-American Tia's, one Japanese Tia and one Tia named after the same 1950's movie.
My full name is TiaJean Francella W, born 1962.
A simple 3 letter name, like Amy and Zoe. Maybe a sweet name for a pet.
My name is Tia and I was born in 1999. My grandmother named me because the show Sister, Sister was on in my hospital room. I HATE the nick-name T-T-T-Tia! Like... I'm not a chia pet! BUT I love the origins of it. I feel my personality fits the name just right! I didn't meet another Tia until 8th grade, there were 2. Now I'm in college and they're all over the place! My grandmomma was spot on!
My name is Tia Maree. Born June 1973. I have only just come to realise the origin of my name. I have heard all the puns towards my name being an alcoholic beverage but I don't care. I love it and I have never actually met another Tia so I guess I am unique. Thank you everyone for the information.
Adorable name! But I think it's best as a nickname for
Tiana
Tiara
Tina
Tilley.
My first name is Tia and I was born in 1956.
My name was derived from the Greek name Stamatia taken from my grandfather whose name was Stamatis.
I am named Tia and it is awesome. Haters back off.
My name is Tia and honestly I think it's cute. It shows a lot of personality and yes I'm short and petite and it just works. I've never met anyone with my name but I hope that the people that do have it feel special. For the people saying that it's weird that it means aunt, lol why? And also, yes it's true, I do get called t-t-t- Tia many times. I guess it's just part of having an awesome name :D.
My name is Tia-Maria, born 1961 and until now have not come across anyone else with the same extension to the name until I came across this website. Being called Tia-Maria has had its ups and downs, specially as I lived in Latin America for the best part of my youth and the joke was I was everyone's aunt who wasn't their aunt. It taught me how to laugh and not take myself too seriously. Everyone calls me Tia and they hardly ever forget my name, especially after I tell them to remember the coffee liquor ;) To date nobody has ever insinuated it is an ugly name. On the contrary. These days, as I understand, it is also quite a popular Greek name.
I think Tia is a nice name. I do not understand all the negative comments. I love the movie Escape to Witch Mountain. I like the fact that the name is simple but still has some pizazz. Mia is so common. I think Tia makes for a more exciting alternative to the overused Mia. I substitute taught a little girl who had an extremely long name-11 letters and getting her to write her name was extremely challenging. That experience led me toward short simple but elegant names like Tia.
My name is Tia. Mom got my name off of Escape to Witch Mountain. I like my name. Yeah I grew up chia pets. Lol ta ta Tia. Whatever.
I love this name. It's unique and beautiful.
I freaking love this name. Its so beautiful. Amazing. Graceful. Simple.
My name is Tia Maria and I have always hated it. I lived in Spain when I was young and was mocked for the translation "auntie", and when I moved back to England for high school and then work, everyone I have met has laughed and said I was named after alcohol. I love the Greek origin as I love the Greek gods, however I hate the name itself, it is not the drink that bothers me, it is the name Tia. I am changing my name through deed poll.
There is nothing wrong with the name Tia. I only can't stop thinking about the fact that it is the abbreviation of Transient Ischemic Attack (a kind of mini stroke).
I think this name is stunning, elegant, gorgeous and cute! ^^ It's so cool that there was an Ancient Egyptian princess who had this name!
I think the name Tia is beautiful. I know a very nice girl who is from Cyprus with this as her first name. Not very common, but I like it.
Good grief. I stumbled upon this mistakenly, though read on throughout the comments about the name Tia through interest and then registered myself. I like the name Tia. I also think that the meaning of it being Aunt in Spanish is beautiful. Especially if the Tia is an Aunt one day. Some people have put horrible comments on here. I don't see why. If you don't like the name, why look for it? Am having a little smile at Tia Maria, the drink. But I like that too. X.
I used to think this name was ok until I realised it sounds the exact same as the word 'tear' like you are crying... It's a shame because it's pretty.
This was my nickname in high school. I really like it, and people always told me that I looked like Tia from Sister, Sister, lol.
Beautiful.
I think that this is a gorgeous name for somebody petite or small. It also works if you have a long unpronounceable surname such as 'Clipplehoff', 'Windclopple' or similar.
This name is SO UGLY. Not only does it mean 'aunt' in Spanish, which makes it ridiculous, but it's short and cheap sounding. Awful.
No offense to anyone, but I don't really like this name because it makes me think of Cha Cha Chia! I wouldn't want a name that reminds me of a plant where you can grow hair on Homer Simpson.
I think this name is quite pretty. It reminds me of someone who is smart yet beautiful.
My name is Tia (Short for Titania) but my brother was almost named Ramses so it would've been really ironic and funny if he had because ancient Ramses' sister's name was Tia, which means Princess. And I kind of like the nickname, "Ta-ta-ta-Tia!" :)
I saw a girl named Tia Lauren and thought that it sounded pretty.
My given name is Tia. I hated it until I finally grew up. My mother was influenced by the movie, "Escape to Witch Mountain." The worst thing about it is the nickname T-T-T-Tia.
I began using the name Tia professionally in my music career as a short form of my name Tania, especially because nobody could pronounce or spell my name correctly, and I was told that technically my name could also be Tatiana, so I took it from there. Now I don't have problems with mispronunciation or spelling!
