Very pretentious and outdated if you ask me.
All I can think of is Theodore from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I know sooooo many little newborns to three year old Theodore’s in our area. It’s lost the appeal.
Addressed to anyone that goes by the name Theodore, please do not mind nor heed the negative opinions of those who may not like your name. They are entitled to their opinions as we all are entitled to our own. Setting aside that sentiment, I would like to express my sincere estimation of this elegant and handsome name that has filled the pages regarding the many luminaries of human history. Theodore has, thankfully, achieved a revived interest from would be parents and is on an ascendant popularity that it most certainly deserves. A toast of good health and life to all the Theodores out there!
Theodore is the world's best name and everyone who doesn't think that is so weird.
I cannot put into words how nerdy this name is omg. Makes me think of Theodore Decker from The Goldfinch. (a nerd) I mean, it's fine if it's used for historical characters, but I would never name my child this.
This just reminds me of Theodore from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I wonder why the name resurged as a top 10 choice in the last couple years- does anybody know why?
I have met so many babies named Teddy lately it's impressive
Fwiw I don't think it sounds good for a grown up mostly if they go by the nicknames Teddy, Ted and even Theo.
I like this name, but I wonder what caused it's resurge in popularity?

Personally, I hate this name so much. It sounds so ugly to me. Like not ugly on a person, but ugly by itself. If it was attached to a person, I might like it more; but I've only ever met one person named "Theodore", and he was not a nice person, very snobby. Not to offend anyone, just my personal experience.
What a pretentious silly name for a child.
My favourite name since I was very young! I love the nickname Teddy, Theo is nice too. It’s very trendy right now, but will hopefully die down in a decade or so when I have kids. Classic but youthful. It’s a beautiful name that I can’t find fault with, I also like the feminine Theodora. I will come back to you in a few years time with my baby Teddy….
Theodore is a distinguished and classy name. Despite what Jace Hendrix insists, Theodore Roosevelt is a great namesake. He made sure Americans had fair wages for their work, good conditions in which to live, and protection from impure foods and medicine.
Handsome, distinguished and classy! Who doesn't like this?
I think my name is cool though I prefer Theo.
I initially didn't like this name, but it has grown on me quite a bit. I slightly prefer Theo as a standalone name over Theodore though.
I never liked this name it sounds like a name of someone with disabilities and I also don't like Theodore Roosevelt this name will lose popularity because of it.
I named my son Theodore because he’s a gift from me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
It’s a cute name. If I had a son I would give him this name but spelled Theodor instead of Theodore.
I personally have always loved this name. Every time I see a character in a book or movie with the name Theodore, I automatically like them. It's one of my favorite names of all time. It sounds majestic, but also comedic and fun. People named Theodore strike me as kind and gentle, I highly recommend this name.
Dorothy and Theodore would make great names for twins!
I think Theodore is a nice name. It's such a beloved classic with many adorable potential nicknames, such as Teddy/Teddybear, Theo, Ted, etc. I think it's a strong name of its own, too, and would age beautifully, in my opinion. Although it has been around for a while now, I wouldn't say it's outdated, but rather graced with a lovely retro charm.
Overall, I like the name Theodore and am glad to see it making a comeback.
I named my eighth child Thiadoore, which is a fun, fresher variation of the overused Theodore. I love this.
Sounds a bit childish.
Most of the negative comments concerning this name must have been written by juveniles. Theodore has always been considered regal and sophisticated. I feel honored to have been named it 57 years ago. Although my Christian name is Theodore, I go by Ted. However, I sign important documents with Theodore. Ted and Teddy are the only shortened versions of Theodore that I recognize. I don't recognize the name Theo as a shortened version; nor do I consider Ed or Edward as versions of Theodore. I don't like them and I don't respond to them.
Sounds a little geeky to me. Theo is much better.
Feels a little bit too harsh, but otherwise Theodore is a good quality name, with class and elegance. I think Teddy as a nickname is just disgusting, immature, but Theodore is the real deal, a strong name!
Yes, it's extremely popular and always has been, but that just goes to show you how timeless it is! Theodore is a strong name on it's own, but Theo, Teo and Teddy are cute nicknames too!
Literally Teddy is the best nickname ever!
Ugly. Theo was good enough.
Prefer Theo much, much more.
It's okay, I like the nickname Teddy.
Terrible name thanks to the end part of it. Instead, just name them Theo.
Terrible name to me, sounds like a pet's name and could not envision it on a grown man.
My grandfather, dad, brother and nephew are all named Theodore. The amazing thing is they all use it differently. My dad is Ted, my brother is Teddy and my nephew is T.J. I think it's a strong name with a nice variety of nicknames. Also, the girls love calling a boy Teddy like a Teddybear and these guys eat it all up, lol.
Theodore is classy. It's one of my favorite boy names.
My sister just named her Baby boy Theodore? I was like what are you doing? This is a ludicrous name? It's pompous and snobby and way too long for a child to print in Kindergarten and way too formal for a man to be taken seriously at work. It's old. Outdated and I want to scream this from the rooftops. I cannot so will weigh in here. I am pleased to see such support for such a silly name. Perhaps my nephew will not hate his name after all and perhaps I will get over being embarrassed to share this child's name in public. Wow.
This name is sort of funny because it looks like 'the odor'.
Too associated with Alvin and the Chipmunks in my brain for me to like this name. I like Theo though.
Love the name but with Ted Bundy and Ted Cruz... gotta pass.
Awesome name! I love the nickname Theo. I just love this name! The use is decreasing; keep it alive! It’s very awesome, you need another Theo in your life; Theo is one of the swaggiest nicknames by the way.
Very classic name. I like it.
Theodore seems like a name that does seem rather nice and formal. I suppose a nickname or two may reduce the formalities of this one interesting name.
Great name... being a Theodore for 60 years now... the only downfall is everybody calls you Ted automatically which is a name in itself. I introduce myself as THED... this gets people thinking of what my full name is. Then I tell them Theodore.
Theodore sounds like an extremely intelligent, logical, yet sensitive, charming man who is a bit nerdy, but immensely handsome at the same time. Definitely a classic and timeless keeper!
Great name. I can't imagine a better meaning. It sounds intelligent and handsome, and even kind of powerful. Theo would be a good nickname for a teen, sounds like the guy all the girls have a crush on... But Teddy is just the best nickname ever, soooooooo adorable. Not even only for a baby... Teddy sounds like a gentle, doting, loving husband and father too. 10 stars out of 10!
We're really considering this name for our son. It's very classy and timeless, plus I actually like the association with Theodore Roosevelt.
As a Theodore myself, I go by Theo. Ted and Teddy sound really outdated, but I don't mind them too terribly. Expect your little Theodore to be a troublemaker. Trust me.
It's a good name, but the nicknames are kind of strange, like Ted and Teddy. Theo is fine, and it is an opinion!
My cousin is pregnant and she's planning on naming her new son Theodore. Theodore Marques. I think it is so classy and has tons of great nicknames that work for all ages. Teddy, Ted, Theo, etc. Theodore is a name a boy can grow into, and that makes it great.
Dorothy would be a good sister name having a similar etymology.
My legal name is Theodore, and my parents nicknamed me Tad. I wasn't a big fan of Theodore as a kid but have come to really like it as an adult. In fact, I often consider introducing myself using a nickname more closely related to Theodore, such as Theo, Ted, Teo (Teo is my favorite), or even Theodore itself.
Such a great name. It reminds me of Teddy bears and Laurie from Little Women (who is one of my favorite characters in that book). I like its feminine counterpart Theodora, too. I'm not sure I would use it, but I just think it's a classy, wonderful name for a boy (and Theodora for a girl).
I think it is classy and a great name.
I don't like it very much but it seems like a name for a prince or a very good person.
My first impression of this name was from the chipmunk, so I thought it cute and musical. Then I read Little Women and fell in love with the name again, and the character nicknamed Laurie in this is such a well rounded character, which I like. I went off the name when I noticed that it contains the word 'odor' within it, which is stupid I know, hence why I gained a new appreciation for the name from Theodore Roosevelt, and the nickname Teddy is just adorable, the odor is pronounced more like adore anyway! I also noticed that another unconventional nickname could be Thor, which could inspire strength. But this whole name inspires strength to me, and gentlemanly notions, historically a backbone, and the capacity for the more modern nickname Theo. I am surprised that it is so popular, but also not, as many people appreciating this name as I do, is both a good and a bad thing. I just hope it doesn't get too popular since this is a favourite of ours if we should have a son. There are not many names that have the distinctive sound of this name. It almost sounds like "thee-adore" lol :-D.
Very formal and mature sounding. I think this is one of the few names I would always call people with it by the full version, as the nicknames sound way too youthful.
Can you say HANDSOME?! Nickname Teddy, Ted, Theo.
I love this name. I think it's really cute and spunky on a little boy. It's one of my favorite boy names, also Nathaniel. I think Nathaniel and Theodore would sound cute together as a pairing name. The only issue that I have is the chipmunk reference. I don't mind it what irks is that everyone can remember that Theodore was a chipmunk name but they don't remember that's so was Brittany, Jeanette, Eleanor and Simon was also to.
I just feel annoyed by that because why did just Theodore have to have such a derogatory reference on a name when other names from the show don't carry that? I really love Theodore and it doesn't affect my perception of the name it's just awesome! Also, my favorite nicknames are Teddy and Theo. My favorite middle names are Theodore Robert, Theodore Elliot, Theodore Grant and Theodore Alexander. Enjoy!
Kind of lispy, otherwise unique and beautiful.
This name is just SO cute and timeless, I love it.
I love this handsome, strong name. :)
I like this name a lot, because the nickname "Teddy" fits either a child or an adult. But if an adult wants to go back to Theodore they also have that choice.
I think it sounds nice, simple, masculine. I like it. I would consider naming a son this.
I like this name a lot, it's so handsome and sophisticated. I also love the nicknames Theo and Teddy.
Purely adorable. This name is so sweet, and sadly underused nowadays. I can see it getting more popular with the uprise in popularity of old fashioned names. We are considering naming our twin son Theodore, he would either be called by his full name or Teddy =)
Theodore is a very classic name, I like it a lot. I don't like the nickname Ted too much, but I like Teddy. My friend said she knows a little boy named Theodore who goes by teddy, and I thought that was adorable! It's good to see there are still children with classic, vintage names rather than crap like Caden or Liam.
This name is really overrated in my opinion. Almost everyone who wants a classy, traditional name calls their son Theodore, and it almost inevitably gets shortened to Theo. I have the same problem with Alexander and Benjamin. Perfectly fine names, but ruined by their obvious nicknames.
Nice name. I also like the nicknames Teddy and Theo.
Theodore is one of my favourite names; of course, I may be biased. 1) it's my nephew's name and 2) I like names that are names and not nicknames or words. I'm sick and tired of boys named Hunter or Jake or Skylar or DeShawn. Theodore is regal and mature sounding, but also cute for a little boy like my nephew. While I agree that Ted isn't the most attractive nickname ever, Teddy is sweet for children and Theo is great for a teenager. When the time comes, he'll have a grown up name- Theodore- that can be taken seriously. Talk about a great name! :)
It's a good name for a boy, much better than a lot of other crap people are coming up with. But I'm not too crazy about the nickname "Teddy".
I think this name sounds sounds really snobbish but I like the nickname Theo.
I like this name quite a bit, but it is a tad long and a little old-fashioned for a kid to always go by. I greatly dislike the nicknames Ted and Theo, but I am in love with the too-cute nickname Teddy!
That's kind of how I feel, I like Theo, hate Theodore.
Ugh, the shortened Theo works for me. Theodore sounds so affected and dorky - Theodork. Theo is mature and sophisticated enough to stand alone where as the pet form Teddy does not. If I loved Theo stand alone I'd never consider Theodore for the official name. Not worth it.
I am a girl called Theodore. I don't mind it but, naturally, people always assume I am a boy. Everybody calls me Theo (pronounced tay-o, as my mother is French). I don't mind this name but would never name a child Theodore because it and its common nicknames (eg. Ted, Teddy) sound rather out dated, in my opinion.
Shockingly enough, this name is still quite common. This full version sounds quite pompous and old-fashioned, and I don't like the kid-like Ted and Teddy either. Besides, I can only associate this name on Ted Nugent. I can be quite negative. So sue me. Many people have ruined names for me, so he sure would!
This is my infant son's name. Obviously I love it - so gentlemanly and handsome with the ever affable nickname Theo. We choose our names based on how the name will carry our child through life and doors that may open for our child as a result. I can imagine a high court judge named Theodore, an artist or plumber named Theo. He can be whatever he chooses with such a versatile and eloquent name :) He is also living up to its meaning, being so truly delightful - a 'divine gift'!
I really like the name Theodore for a little boy. Some short forms of Theodore are Teddy, Ted and Theo.
I like this name; I wish I didn't always think of the chipmunk when I hear it.
Theo is a cool sounding name. I like the meaning of this name.
