My parents are from Ecuador and named me Tamia because it means "rain" in the Ecuadorean Kichwa (Quechua) language, and rain is very important and sacred to the indigenous farming peoples of that land. (Pronounced TAM-ya.)
The name Tamia is a French girl's name, literally from the French word "Tamia" which means "Chipmunk". Male versions are Tamias or Tamius which are Latin for "Chipmunk".
