Tamerlane

First of all, the man who was involved in the Boston Marathon shooting was named TAMERLAN Tsarnaev, and second of all, I don't really care for the connotation to him. I've always thought this was a pretty cool name, and I first learned about it after hearing about the Tsarnaev brothers. I still don't mind, though. I just think it would be weird for a non-Chechen (or Avar) person (particularly an American) to name their child Tamerlane. But nevertheless, I still love this name.

It's a pretty cool name. And for those saying that Tamerlane is now an infamous name because of the Tsarnaev dude... no one even remembers him. It's Dzhokhar Tsarnaev they remember.

But I'm not so sure about using a name that's central Asian in origin.

I know Tamerlane was a famous historical figure prior to 2013, but I think this name has been rendered unusable in the United States - at least. Otherwise it'll seem like you're naming your son after a notorious terrorist.

(The difference between this and, say, Timothy McVeigh or Ted Kaczynski, is that their names were quite common in the States. How many other Tamerlans / Tamerlanes are there?)

I prefer a variation of this name, Tammerline. But the original is good to.

This is kind of a cool name. Though I might spell it Tammerlane (with two M's) if I used it for a story or something.
