Suri is another version of Sura which means beautiful face, Sura was Ardavan the 5th daughter in Persian history; she was a great and famous fighter and she was a leader in important wars. It is a very classic Persian name, Suri or Sura.

I don't want to be rude, but as a native Hebrew speaker, the Hebrew word for princess is "Nesiha", I don't think Suri is a synonym or anything, never heard of this word before hearing about Suri Cruise. Yet, Avshalom Kor is the one of the most famous linguists in Israel, so he's probably right about Suri being a nickname for Sara.

My name is Suri, and so it is the name of my great grandmother and great, great grandmother so has been passed along. It is a feminine first name as Suria is the boy version. It is from North India meaning 'Sun' I think this is a lovely name, though it can get annoying if people think I am named after Suri Cruise despite the fact that I am older than her.

Actually Suri is a Persian nickname for the name of "Soroor". Soroor is a Persian name for girls that means Joy or Happiness. The nickname of "Suri" is friendlier and closer! Anyway, I'm happy to know this name is used in other countries as well with beautiful meanings! :)

My name is Suri, and I have been called Suri since birth. It is my Yiddish nickname for my legal name which is Sarah, from the Hebrew bible/Torah. It is an absolutely beautiful name that means princess. Both Suri and Sarah are very popular names in Orthodox Jewish circles.
SURI is a popular surname in North India. In fact, my name is SAFAL and surname is SURI. I have a physical record of a long family tree (uploaded on geni.com) and the first member is recorded in 1610. Our surname has been SURI since then.I can't speak of people outside India and what they like to think/invent... (just because a celebrity kid has SURI name doesn't mean people keeping/using/reading it for the first time actually own it or are experts knowning the meaning)... but I can tell you that SURI, in India, means the followings... (1) Lord Krishna and (2) Warrior. Please remember, WE have the name for over 500 years and the above meanings are what we have followed since forever.Lastly, SURI is not Yeddish name... it is HINDI Surname. AND... its masculine, not feminine.
Suri is a diminutive of Sura, a Yiddish form of Sarah. "The Complete Book of Hebrew Baby Names" by Smadar Shir Sidi lists Sorali, Sorke, Sura and Tzirel as Yiddish forms of Sarah. According to a news article on Suri Cruise's name "Avshalom Kor, an expert on the intricacies of the Hebrew language, told Army Radio there is a tenuous connection [to Hebrew]. Kor said Suri is a nickname for Sarah as pronounced by Jews from Central Europe". http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/news/hey-tom-nice-job-article-1.591977

In Hebrew, Suri means "princess". In Farsi, the name Suri means "red rose". In Japanese, Suri means "pickpocket". However, the Farsi translation is also debatable. Some natives claim Suri means "a shade of red" or "a blaze". Others explain that it means "happiness and joy".It's a very diverse name. ^^

I love it. If I am right, the name is a Japanese word for "thief", but not 100% sure.
Suri is a "pet" name used by the Ashkenazi Jews of Poland and Hungary for the name Sarah. This information comes from Dr. Avshalom Kor, an Israeli linguist and expert on Hebrew grammar and semantics.
It is a very classic Persian name, Suri or Sura.
