Sounds like Stellar and Interstellar. Welp gives me futuristic and sci-fi vibes. I love this name.
We named our son Stellan and just love the name. In fact we are struggling to find an equally great name for his soon to arrive baby sister! We love how unusual it is but without being made up or unattractive. People did not know what to make of it at first and most had never heard it before, but everyone loves it now. It's so cute on a little boy and I think will age well too. He just happened to be bright blonde with big blue eyes and the name suits him so well.
I have an unusual name so I wanted my son to have something different, but not made up sounding. It’s always an ice breaker when you meet new people, I came across Stellan on the internet and it was a toss up between Stellan Gabriel or Gabriel Stellan. Daddy chose Stellan Gabriel. It suits him perfectly even though, when he was around six, he asked me why I didn’t call him something normal like Jack! Completely coincidentally, he was born around the time Mamma Mia came out so everyone assumes he was named after Stellan Skarsgård.
Ever since hearing the name Stellan, thanks to Stellan Skarsgård, I have loved it. So much so that I named my son Stellan last year. It certainly suits him. My husband and I are both mostly Scandinavian so it works well with our last name.
I think it's cool.
I named my son Stellan in 2014. I came upon it while looking for baby names online. My husband agreed on it instantly. My best friend however made a snarky comment about it, so I gave up on it. My son was born and I still didn't know what to name him. We chose a random name and took him home from the hospital. The next 24 hours were just painful, I just didn't like the other name and it didn't fit him. So finally I grew some b@lls, no longer cared what my friend thought about the name and called the hospital. Luckily they still hadn't filed the paperwork with the state, so changing his name was as easy as a phone call. It fits him perfectly and makes me smile every time I say it.
Some recessive genes showed up and despite my husband having dark hair and eyes, our Stellan has blond hair and blue eyes.
This has been my favourite boys name for about a year. It's really handsome and strong, and even though it's only one letter off of Stella, I don't really associate the two.
Personally, I think the name Stellan sounds handsome, yes, if a little bit conceited.
I don't really like this name. It looks too much like someone took Stella and made a masculine form out of it.
I like the name "Stellan" because I find it very handsome. I heard of it after I read about "Dancer in the Dark" as Stellan Skarsgård, a Swedish actor who happens to be also handsome (and very cute during his early career), was considered for a role as Bjork's male friend.I considered it to name for my son, but then I was shocked to realized that it's not a common name in Sweden. I just really want to know the origin of the name just to be sure it's a good one.
I love this name, and I see no problem with using it in the U.S. though if I was concerned about that then I would put it in the middle spot with a more recognizable first name. Then he would have the option of a more popular name or a less common one.
I like this name but wouldn't use it in my home country (US) because it sounds like 'Stella.' In Sweden or where people are more used to that style-- definitely.
I think it's very pretty!
