It sounds like a good name to give to a fictional character. But on the other hand, if it's a real baby, I suggest sticking with Starla or Stella.
I have a friend named Star. She is one of my best friends and her name is beautiful. It's a lovely name, I don't hear it often though sadly.
I love this name and almost used it for my little girl. This is one of my top 5.
It reminds me of the night sky, or deep blue. I like midnight and indigo too.
I knew a horse named Star. Also it seems a little… how do I say, like a name a dancer might use.
This is my mom's name but I still think it should be gender neutral. It's literally Star. It feels weird to give a Star a gender. But you guys do you.
Very pretty!
I love Star as a nickname for Starla, which I think is beautiful.
I think Star is a very pretty name. If people can name their kids Sky, Meadow, River and Ocean then what’s wrong with Star? I prefer it as a middle name.
I could never imagine growing up with such a name. Why not Stella?
Pretty. I prefer it as a middle name.
I think it's just as unique and beautiful as other names like Cosmo, Constance, Patience, etc.
Really pretty, but I wouldn't use it on a little girl. Maybe Starla is better?
I think it's a legitimately beautiful & unique name.
Why would anyone name themself Star, do people think their kids are flaming balls of gas or maybe they just want to torture them, Star is one of the worst names anyone can come up with.
Star as Star is beautiful, but I don't like it as person's name. Just feels immature, childish, just boring!
Dear moms,
Please please please stick with Starla! It's so much prettier and you can use the nickname Star for it.
I like it as a middle name, but this name is still pretty!
I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned about being a backward spelling of ‘Rats’.
I personally don’t think Star is a bad name. I used to want to name my daughter Star (if I ever have one) and you guys kinda ruined it for me, lmao. Anyways, I wouldn’t name my daughter Star because I want her famous. I would name my daughter that because I actually like it. I’m pretty interested in stars and space, so yeah.
I love to look at the stars at night and I love the sound of Star, I just don't think it would work as a first name. Maybe a middle. Amanda Star
Anna Star
Natalie Star
Marie Star
Amy Star
Kayla StarI guess it works as a middle name.
Honestly, I love Stella a whole lot more, I think Stella is very pretty.
Just use Sitara which means the same thing.
I personally think the name Star is a beautiful name. I don’t want my child to become famous, that’s not even the intent. I just like the sounding, and stars are pretty cool to look at in the night, including constellations and stuff. I probably would not name my child Star, though. It’s just not that high up.
Strange. Plus, a child with this name is going to be teased.
Tacky. There are so many other pretty celestial names.
My code name is Star. I chose this name because I imagined his name to be someone who is smart, strong, and not sensitive. Someone who isn't a freak like me.
Hello! My name is Star! I think that it's amazing and beautiful and I thank my parents for naming me the most wonderful name that they could ever name me!
Thanks a lot! YOU made people despise this name! "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all!" Quote by Stars123.
This is a beautiful, pretty name. I agree, Anonymous User.
A bit pompous, but it's okay.
My name is Star and I think it is a good name because it means that your child is your light, hence the name Star.
There is a girl named Star on my favorite show: Star vs the Forces of Evil. I really want to name my future daughter Star. I don't think this name is hideous at all. I think it is very unique and rare.
I'm confused as to why people hate this name so much- I personally don't think it sounds tacky, and I guess it doesn't remind me of a "hollywood brat" because I can tell you I'm the opposite and have this name. I do get teased, but it's always playful and never intended negatively, so I don't mind. It's not trashy, tacky, or stupid- it's weird yeah, but in all honesty I'd keep this name before I would have "Beth" or "Kate". It's a simple name, easy to remember, and you probably won't meet too many people with it, either. I personally like it alright.
I can’t help but adore this name, it sounds gorgeous & a star itself is beautiful. I love it so much!
I personally like the name. Star reminds me of the sun, light and brightness, which are denotations of shining, and I think I would see my child as the brightest thing in my life.
My preferred name is Star. I love it and think it is unique. Also, I love that it is a celestial or nature name. It sounds beautiful too! Feel free to go by Star or name someone Star. :)
This is my actual name. Seriously... I HATE it. Please do NOT name your child Star. Your child will be teased their entire life, even into their 40's. I am still annoyed with my mom for naming me Star. I want to change my name so bad. I am considering changing my name on FB so people quit messaging me and asking me about my name.
Love this name! I don't plan on naming my future daughter Star, but that's only because I've already used it for my cat's name, lol.
105 baby girls in the USA (2014) were given Star.
My name is Starr. The name was a bit annoying to have when I was in elementary school, but living in Northern California, it isn't THE tackiest name here. I am half Persian and 'Star' translates into the very common Iranian name 'Setareh'. Now, a lot of people seem to like my name. I like my extra R, as it does seem a bit more like a name (and is a very common surname). It is a bit disappointing that many of my fellow Star/Starrs aren't the greatest... Starr Jones and Charles Manson's wife (it's also a name that pretentious girls change their name to- I've met a few weird Stars). I like to think I make up for it though! I'm a lover of science and prefer to think of my name for what it represents and that feels special. If you're going to raise an awesome kid, PLEASE, feel free to name her Starr! :-)
I am truly shocked so many people hate this name! My 8 year old daughter is called Star with the middle name Jane. I named her after the Jamie Gertz character in my favourite film, the Lost Boys. I think it is a gorgeous name, and I'm certainly not trailer trash, I'm a well educated English mother. I have had many people saying my daughters' name is beautiful.
To be honest, I think this name is pretty tacky. Definitely would not recommend. It's ten times better than the spelling Starr.
Unique! But still strange!
I personally wouldn't name my daughter this, but it is beautiful, and I love space and celestial beings, so to me it sparks an intrigue to look up in the sky and wonder. To me it sounds like the name would belong to someone who is happy, kind, bubbly and kind of mysterious.
Sound: Very pretty. Short. Easy to remember
Originality: 10/10. Never heard this name before.
Spelling: Perfect.
Overall: I don't even need to read the comments to know a lot of people are hating on this name. Personally I think this a nice, beautiful name.
Cheers!
134 poor little girls were given the name Star in 2012 in the US.
"134 poor little girls were given the name Star in 2012 in the US" - OohvintageUm, poor? I think Star is a wonderful, beautiful name! They are fortunate enough to have an uncommon name.
Since "Star" is considered a tacky name in the US, I wonder if in Italy Stella (Star in Italian) is considered tacky..? (Obviously Stella is a much more beautiful and intellectual sounding name that Star and would make a great alternative if you like the meaning).
I always thought it was a unisex name, too. I know guys with this name. My name is Esther (and nicknamed Sturr) which has the same meaning and sounds sort of similar, but I don't like Star/Starr as a name.
Although not my favorite, this is really pretty.
When I was very little I had two of the same Barbie doll and made them twins named Angel and Star. I thought the names were gorgeous and perfect...After having grown up, I can say my taste (and the times) have changed. Star is quite tacky now, I agree. I think of bleached hair and blue eyeshadow.
I have a friend named Star and I think it's a very nice name. Simple and unique, it doesn't sound trashy at all to me.
Very tacky, in my opinion. Also, I dislike the fact that it spells "rats" backwards.
I used this for my daughter Elizabeth's middle name. I wanted a name that was short and pretty and since most people don't use their middle names, I chose Star because it's kind of different and not overused.
It is very tacky. Like naming a kid Love or something.
I once had a friend whose mom had a twin sister. The mom was Angel, and the aunt was Star. I always thought those were cool twin names, and I really like both of them. (Though today, I prefer Angel on a boy, actually.)
I much prefer Stella, which means the same thing.
This name makes me think of "Ringo Star", so I think of it more as a boys name.
Tacky.
I had two pet rats. One called Star, the other Dash. I really love the name 'Star' but my partner won't let me use it if we have a daughter for obvious and already stated reasons above. :(
This sounds pretentious as a person's name. It shows that the parents want their daughter to be a celebrity. And if she doesn't (or doesn't want to be one), what will the parents do?
I think Star would be a nice name for a horse or bunny, but for a person it's just plain weird.
This name is very exotic, but I don't like the fact that it is rats backwards.
I like this name, but only as a middle. I think it'd make a very good middle name but not a good first name, for a first name I like Stella which means Star.
I hate random words (Grace, Joy, Heaven, Faith, Destiny, Comfort, etc.) that become names.
I love it. This name goes right up there with Luna. It's great. And why say 'you'd have to be mad'? I think it's LOVELY.
Star reminds me of some ditzy blonde girl who lives in Beverly Hills and tries to live up to her name.
Lovely. As a middle name. My mom has a cousin whose name was Star Camper, which I think is cute. And I grew up with a little redheaded girl named Star (but her real name was La Star. Ew). But I really like this as a middle name.
It's kind of tacky and makes me think of Star Jones. Which is never a good thing.
I love stars, and they're very nice, but I think a person named after them is a little bit tacky.
I agree that it makes a great middle name.
I don't like this name at all for a girl. For a boy, UGH! If you have this name, you are shiny, right? :D
If you have twins, it would be a great idea to name them Star and Stella. This is because Stella means "star".
I like the name, but if you want to convey the same meaning, why not name your daughter Stella? It sounds more like a name, and she would probably get less teasing that way.
Overall, I like this name, and I don't think it's at all ludicrous.
This is a wonderful name. Simple and beautiful. I've known two Stars. I also think this would be a good middle name.
Star is a very exotic name, but technically there's no sense in it.
My aunt was going to name her daughter Starr but it ended up being a boy. I'm kind of impartial to the name but don't think it's horrible. It could grow on me, but never be a favorite.
You would have to be mad to give a girl this name.
This is a hideous name.
I LOVE the name Star. There is a goddess in Africa by the name of Astar, and she is a love goddess. I also love "Star" because it makes people think of love and mystery.
