The name got its popularity in 1980s due to the cultural influences of Islamic Revolution in Iran (Persia), because this was the name of the first martyr for Islam. Somayeh means "high above" in Arabic and it means "dignified" in Persian/Farsi. After the Eighties, the name has lost its popularity and now it is not common in Iran.
