I am a Chinese Sian, but mostly Filipino, and living in America. Sian came from my paternal line, which has Chinese in it. Unlike what everyone thinks, for me, it's pronounced like "Shawn". I get called Shi-ahn, sigh-ann, and sometimes even shaw-un. Edit: Sian is my LAST name, not FIRST.I like it, and I believe it MAY originate from the old Chinese city named "Xi-an" and Sian would seem like a more fitting English version.
Sian was also the name of a character in a Welsh legend - Sian Tywyn. She was said to have had healing powers, most notably of these was her power to improve peoples' sight.
My daughter's name is Sian and being from South Wales we always believed the name to be "Jane". We named our daughter Sian Jeanette. A further clarification of the name would be appreciated.
