Shirin, a queen of the Sassanid Persian Empire, is mentioned in Firdausi's "Shahnama," Nezami's "Chosroes and Shirin," and Scheherazade's "Book Of One Thousand And One Nights." The story of Shirin and Farhad has been romanticized and retold many times by Persian poets.
