Seraphina

Once I looked at the popularity chart, I was so surprised that Seraphina is hardly popular at all! It's elegant, feminine and timeless, and it ends with an a, like popular names such as Isabella, Sophia, and Olivia. I would have expected it to be gaining much popularity.

One of my all time favorite girl names. It is definitely on the table in terms of ideas for any future daughters. The only problem is I always go back and forth on if this name is too "overly frilly" or not and I am The Queen of frilly and overly pretentious, over the top names. Like it is of course over the top but is it TOO over the top for actual usage? I have no idea tbh. Several people have reassured me that it is fine. Even my nearly 60 year old stepmother who usually chides my unusual taste actually likes this one best of all of my ideas, who'd have guessed? I adore it, but I also have a complicated relationship with it because I have doubts. If such a daughter ended up being more tom boyish in nature I would feel guilty saddling her with such a hyper-feminine name. My other favorite S name, Sapphira, seems more versatile for many personality types. My favorite nickname for it is Sera/Sara which is more neutral and "calm" for lack of a better word so perhaps that could be a compromise. I also like the nickname ideas of Seri and Phina.

My absolute favorite name for a girl! I love its meaning, and the fact that it isn't very common at all. It's very fun to write, and it stands out. For a nickname, I like Fin "fehn". I would either nickname mine Fin, Phina, or I would leave it in full and call her Seraphina. Sera doesn't go nice with my surname.

Seraphina is such a pretty name. I think it's a little over the top for a person, but the meaning is lovely. It sounds very princess-like, and I adore the nickname Sera.

I have grown to love this name so much I want it as my own. I prefer to spell it as Saraphina. My first name is Sarah, and I love how I can continue to use that as a nickname if I do legally change it. At first I hadn’t liked it but that lasted a very short time. So I love the seraphim and all, they're very cool, but six wings? That, I did not know. But the name. Well, I like the association with seraphim, and my friends' sibling's name is Serafina so that's all nice. It is very pretty and while it sounds very Italian or Portuguese, they are Jewish, not Italian or Portuguese in any way, and my friend's name is Hebrew, so that always confuses me. But since that it is just my experience, it is very unlikely that other people will have that. I mean, it's not bad or anything but sometimes I think about it.

I love my name, I go by 'Phina' most of the time as it is shorter and fits me better. I'm a young, blonde, 20 year old girl and I think I will probably move to Seraphina as I get older. The only issue is that people rarely spell/pronounce it right, but luckily it is an unforgettable name, so I never have any trouble with that. Try as I might, Starbucks just can never seem to get it right on my cup! Anyways, I have gotten many compliments on this name, and I am proud to have it.

Sephy/Seffy/Sephie/Seffie or even Saffy/Saphy/Saffie/Saphie or Saff/Saf/Sef/Seff/Saph/Seph could also be good nicknames. My friend thought this sounded a bit like Steph/Stephie, or will be misheard as Soph/Sophie but I disagree. Just something to consider if you are planning to use this awesome name! :-)

My name is Serafina, this was my step grandmother's name. She raised my father, his mother passed when he was four years. That was 1923. I am 40 years of age and the second to last in a family of six kids. We are Italian and I have read all the angelic and biblical history. That is how I believe the highest arc angel derives from Serafim. My name has always given me some sort of honorary noticability. People never forgot me and I'm very different, unique as well as tomboyish. I love my name. My father would not allow me to go by Sera although I have used it as an adult. When I was little I called myself Nina.

My daughter's name is Sarafina Sky. I love the flow. My husband had watched Sarafina the movie with Whoopie Goldberg when he was 18 and from that moment always wanted to name his daughter that. We have a few nicknames for her... Fina, finafina, cielo "sky in Spanish", but NEVER SARA! That is one thing I was adamant about. As for her... She's 3 and never calls herself by a nickname. She always says her full name Sarafina. Her name fits her personality. I also kept the spelling classy and simple, I know the name isn't common but I didn't want to be obnoxious and spell it all funky, just seemed a bit too much and would take away from the purity and classic sound of her name.
Also Fina in Spanish means "fine quality".

My name is Sarafina. Personally, I don't think it is a pretentious name at all. In truth, I myself think it sounds a bit plain :/ Though... as far as names go, I guess it's not too bad.
On the topic of nicknames (speaking from personal experience), I've never had one. Many times, I've met new people who have immediately decided they've wanted to call me 'Sara' or 'Sarah'. However, I haven't met a single person yet that has actually used it consistently. So yeah... just saying...

This is a beautiful name, though it's slightly "out there" for a first name. It'd make a unique middle name, and I suggest it other than the more common and stale middle names such as Ann, Marie, Rose, Lyn, Grace, and the likes.

Gorgeous name. Serafina "Fia" is my favorite because it avoids the dull Sera nickname. I don't find this name any more elaborate than the popular Isabella. It fits many of the current trends right now. I could see it rising in popularity.

I think this is a wonderful name for a girl! It's so sweet and soft-sounding, almost giving the impression of floating on a cloud :) But, I do think it's a name that could suit someone with a more rough personality as well. You know, one nickname no one has mentioned is Fina, but that might work better if you spelled the name Serafina. The Italian Saint was called Santa (Saint) Fina, as a nickname for Santa (Saint) Serafina. And I also think Sera (Ser-ah) is prettier than Sara as a nickname.

Seraphina is a precious name for a child but not for an adult. I prefer Seraphina more than Saphira but it Saphira is more mature. The problem is that Saphira is associated with the Eragon series.

I do not think this name is too pretentious or 'character like' as some have stated. Seraphina is perfect if you want something different but not too far out there.
