Possibly from Irish scáth meaning "shadow". In Irish legend she was the Scottish warrior woman who trained the Ulster hero Cúchulainn. It was used by Irish author Michael Scott for a character in his young adult novel 'The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel' (2007).
