I’m not Japanese, but in my opinion, this is the most beautiful Japanese name for a girl (I also like Shion and Masako). I try to ignore that it’s associated with Memoirs of a Geisha…I’m not going to let that ruin the name for me. I’m going to name my small ringneck dove Sayuri :)

My name is Sayuri. My mom gave me that name, because she watched this movie called "Memoirs of a Geisha". At first I didn't like it, but when I saw the meaning I liked it, but really the movie about the Geisha ruined the name Sayuri.
I think Sayuri is a very, very beautiful name, but for me, it was ruined by the book "Memoirs of a Geisha". No offense to Mr Golden, but I feel his book misrepresented the Geisha. Contrary to what it says in "Memoirs of a Geisha", Geisha are NOT prostitutes, they are artisans - dancers and musicians who preserve the Japanese traditional arts.

What can I say? I love Japanese names and this is a very pretty one. It has a nice, strong meaning; and a flair to it. Not too strong, but not weak, either. Just pretty.
