This is a really nice name, and this isn't the only meaning. According to this site Samira also means "wind, air" in Sanskrit, and even the "companion in evening talk" meaning is nice, with its connotations of the mysterious night but also an intelligent conversation. I would definitely use it, even though I don't have the heritage. I'm surprised it's not more popular, but it's not too out there and is pleasing to any ear. One problem might be getting confused with Samara or even Samantha, maybe Amira as well.
