The most famous Rupert to me, is Rupert the bear, famous English children's character, most English families know of him, it was really common for some child in the family to get the annual at Christmas, early editions very valuable, I always loved the character, full of fun and innocence, I always said if I had a boy I would call him Rupert, 11 years ago at age of 49 I became a father to a boy, the real life Rupert, middle name bear, I just had to.
Rupert Brooke 1887 to 1915 is a famous bearer of this name. He was thought to be one of the most handsome men of his era, he was a poet and idealist and sadly died in Greece fighting the Ottoman Turks in 1915 during the Great War. I urge anyone interested to google pictures of Rupert Brooke and of course his poems too they are beautiful as was he and they may completely change your negative opinion of this name.
