Can we PLEASE retire the pronunciation with the "jai nah" sound? Kids with this beautiful name will get bullied. It's from the Latin for "queen" and that's pronounced "GEE". You can check on Google Translate for the Latin pronunciation: https://translate.google.com/?sl=la&tl=en&text=regina%20&op=translateIt may be used as the preferred pronunciation for some places like the city, but can we just collectively retire that to stop the bullying?
In the Southern US, the name is pronounced Re-Gee-Na, with a long "e". However in British English, it's pronounced to rhyme with "vagina". 1st yr college, the professor called the roll & because of the bad sound system, & his British/Canadian pronunciation, it sounded like my name was "Vagina". I was hideously embarrassed, as 100 or so freshman were craning their necks to see who answered to Vagina. I hissed the proper pronunciation to folks nearby, who nodded in understanding. Ten yrs later, visiting in England, my hosts were very careful to emphasize "my" correct US pronunciation, when introducing me. I was so grateful.

I don't know why some people pronounce Regina as "re-JIE-na". How do you pronounce the name "Gina"?

My name is Regina, and I don't like my name, as horrible as that sounds because it is ALWAYS pronounced incorrectly. It is pronounced, reh-hee-nah because I am Mexican but people always pronounce it wrong on purpose to annoy me.
