When googling the name it tells you it's Hebrew not Russian. I think it sounds cute because of the movie, but as a Spanish speaker it sounds odd to me for a name. In Spanish Raya (pronounced like Maya) means stripe. It can also mean a scratch on a surface, like on a table or cd. It also reminds me of the word rayo, which means ray in English. Rayo can mean lightning bolt, ray of light, etc.

Here is a new one for you my short name is Raya pronounced Ray-uh however my actual name is LuRaya pronounced Loo-ray-uh. I've never met another person with this variation of the name Raya.

My name is Raya and it is pronounced RAI-UH. I love my name, though there may be quite a bit of people with this name, it's not every day I meet someone named RAI-UH. :)

One of my closest friends has this name, but spelled Raia. (Pronounces RAY-uh). This name is really pretty, exotic, and uncommon. I love it!
