Catalan name which is usually used in honor of the sanctuary Mare de Déu de Queralt (Our Lady of Queralt) near Berga, Catalonia. The name of the sanctuary (as well as the surname stemming from this and several other places in Catalonia named Queralt) is derived from the pre-Roman root quer "rock" and Catalan alt "high", ultimately from Latin altus, -a, -um "high". Until the late 1980s, this name was used exclusively by people from the area around Berga; it was only in the 1990s that its usage spread all over Catalonia.(Information from name #5499 originally submitted by user Caprice)
