I think Piety is a gorgeous name.
While it's a great virtue that everyone ought to try and attain, yadda yadda yadda...I don't like it as a name.
While it is strange, I like the way the syllables sound together. I'm not religious though, so I'd never use it.
Am I the only who thinks that this name is a rather strange virtue name? Nevertheless, I think it has some sort of an odd charm about it. Although I personally would not use it, I can certainly imagine it being used as a second name than a first name, possibly denoting the child's character?
I believe that this is a lovely name for a little girl. True Piety is not only the appearance of devotion, but also the love, faith, respect, self-sacrifice, and humbleness that comes from loving God. Piety can also be seen as loyalty, such as filial Piety which means loyalty and love for one's family. What virtue could be more desirable for a child?
Extremely corny and pathetic.
To me, PIETY is not a virtue. It is the state of being pious -- and the dictionary defines "pious" as:- characterized by a hypocritical concern with virtue or religious devotion; sanctimonious.
- practiced or used in the name of real or pretended religious motives, or for some ostensibly good object; falsely earnest or sincere: a pious deception.Piety is an act that people put on so as to APPEAR goodly and religious, for whatever reason. It's not about loving God, but rather it's about IMAGE, and looking the part. So, to me, naming your daughter Piety is essentially naming her Hypocrisy or Poseur.
What dictionary are you looking at?
Last Time I checked, Pious just meant "Super Religious"? Are you going off of some obscure, dated definition or something?
