From Egyptian wsr-kn, of uncertain etymology. It could be of Libyan origin, or it could derive from Egyptian wsr "mighty, powerful" or the name of the god Osiris. This was the name of several pharaohs with Libyan ancestry of the Twenty-Second Dynasty.
