This name has that ring to it that commands respect. Great for firstborn children, even though it's traditionally given to the eighth born in a family. "Tavi" or "Tav" would be good nicknames for a name as strong as this one.
I adore the name Octavian. Makes me think of a boy who is intelligent and sincere. The historical ties make it so the name demands respect, and has an allure of power to it.
I like this name. Octavian sounds intelligent and commanding, and would be a perfect middle name. Even if the "octopus" association arises, well, I like octopi better than most animals anyhow.
I LOVE the name Octavian. I heard it in History class one day and fell in love with it. I want to name my second son this. I love it mostly because it's unique. You don't hear it anymore.
Tavian makes a good nickname for Octavian. Or Tavian just alone.

Octavion was an amazing military strategist, but because of the suffix "Oct"- which I imagine small children would immediately associate with an octopus, I would be hesitant to name a child this.
