Octavia looks and sounds like a name that would be primarily/commonly used by Black Americans (in MY opinion). I would be VERY surprised if I met a nonblack person named Octavia. Anyway, it's a beautiful name! I hope that it doesn't become too popular anytime soon!(Side note - we all need to get comfortable admitting that certain names ARE associated with and more commonly used by certain races, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, religions, and types of people. It's just a reality. When you see or hear the name "Muhammad", you don't picture a White Catholic redhead from Carlsbad, New Mexico. When you see or hear the name "Meredith", you don't picture a Black woman from Houston, Texas. When you see or hear the name "Alejandra", you don't picture an Asian woman from Queensland, Australia.)
This is a powerful name, and it gives CEO vibes.
Personally, "Octavia" gives the vibe of a woman who would apply her eyeliner seamlessly while her partner is busy murder driving.
I like this name, I think I'm going to use it for my main character. She's a musician, and the name makes me think of "octave." It also sounds very elegant.
This name reminds me of Octavia Blake from The 100, my favorite character. I've never heard of anyone in real life with this name, but I think it's a really pretty name. Now, would I name MY kid this? I don't know, I like unique names, but not that unique. And it's hard to imagine, "Welcome home, Octavia!" I do hope this beautiful name gains popularity one day, however, I probably wouldn't name my child this.
It has a music association.
Octavia is a gorgeous name. I would be more than glad to consider it for a daughter. Octavian is also a handsome, and lovely choice. I like like that it’s familiar, but not so common. Pretty much perfect. The meaning is good.
I love this name very much! When I have a daughter, I'd definitely want to name her this.
I think of octopus. Odd name.
My daughter's name is Octavia Kara which literally means “eighth love”. Considering she is my eighth child I think it suits the situation very well LOL. You see what I did there? Eighth love:) hahahaha.
This is such a beautiful name! Sounds like a name for a very courageous, brave, strong woman!
This is cute, I like this for some reason. It seems like it would belong to a sassy fierce woman. I like the nickname Tay too.
It makes me think of a woman who is strong enough to go through all the levels of hell, and still have her hair and makeup as neat as when she entered. She's fierce, witty and independent, she doesn't let anyone rule her or tell her what to do.
I love the name Octavia, she's strong, she's fierce and she knows it.
Serious and elegant. Great name. Octavia is good!
Sexy unusual name. It's very pretty and elegant.
Families must be Catholic if they have enough kids to name their eighth Octavia.
Ooh, I like it.
It’s really cool. I absolutely adore this name.
I can imagine it on anyone with this name. But it would look extremely cool on a kid-teen.
100% feminine sounding, a nickname for it could be Tay.
Awful name. Reminds me of octopus.
I think it is a pretty name. I love classical names from Ancient Rome and think Octavia is a nice name for a girl. It’s different and yet not so different that it sounds strange.
Way better than Olivia.
Cool name. It sounds powerful.
I named my Toontown Rewritten character this, but I think this would be a nice name for a (real) girl. Could also make a nice middle name! "Octavia-Marie" would be pretty :]
It's pretty, although it kinda reminds me of octopi.
My sister's name is Octavia. I love it because it flows so nicely. There are also a lot of nicknames for this. I used to call her Tavie but after reading these comments I will suggest some of these nicknames to her. One annoying thing however is that many people pronounce it wrong, which I know can be annoying from my name.
I have loved this name since I was 10 and I am now 29 with two kids. I named my three year old daughter Octavia and my 5 year old son Octavio. I am obsessed! I actually changed my name from Lilly to Ocvia and my wife changed her name to Bethany to Ovia after our daughter was born! To sum it up my name is Ocvia my wife’s name is Ovia my daughter’s name is Octavia and my son's name is Octavio. Oh and I am pregnant with soon to be my son Octovio. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
Wish it was pronounced ahk-TAH-vee-ǝ as it would be much prettier.
I don't know, I think I am beginning to like this name since it is an interesting alternative to the highly popular Olivia. Not overused and quintessentially unique.
My name is Octavia, a very different "AM" or BEING. I love this name being as 8 is highly fortuned. Fulfilling and angelic :SPOTLIGHT.
Way better than the over-used Olivia. First liked this name when watching TV and someone's sister was named Octavia. Her family called her 'Tay' and I thought that was cute.
I LOVE THIS NAME! I named a character in my book this.
Octavia is stunning, and an excellent alternative to the super popular Olivia. My favourite Octavia nicknames are Ava and Avia.
My name is Octavia and I really like the name even though it's not popular.
I love this name! I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. It has a beautiful sound, and it's even cooler if the person has a connection to the number eight.
Very unique, but reminds me of an octopus. Which I avoid.
The name Octavia was given to 79 baby girls born in the US in 2012.
A terrible name for a child if you let her know the etymology of it, but as far as it sounds, I think it's a very attractive and noble-sounding name for a girl.
Octavia and its derivatives sound kinda like the name a music nerd a would give to their child. Which may not be a bad thing- just a thought.
This name is really cool. :)
A very dignified, beautiful, and unusual name. It would really suit a child born on August 8th (eighth day of the eighth month).
A very important sounding name.
My daughter has a good friend named Octavia. The name is very unique, and because of my association with her, suggests an energetic, intelligent and high-octane child. An excellent name all around.
I don't really like the sound of this name. I guess it's the beginning that just sounds quite harsh. Plus, the name is quite old-fashioned.
I really like this and I really like Tavia. I'm not sure if I would use it. Because it probably does sound pretty harsh to most people.
I'm not sure I really ike this name or not. I think what really bothers me is the first syllable. "Oc" seems harsh, but "Tavia" (if you pronounce it 'tah-vee-ah' and not 'tay-vee-ah') is pretty. I suppose it's because one doesn't hear the "oc" beginning in most names. There's really no way to fix that though.
I used to be in love with this name. It is quite the pretty and unique name. It's a strong, beautiful, unique name. A name for a dynamic person.
It's quite a nice name, nicer then a lot of Ancient Roman names. The only real Ancient Roman name that everyone loves is Julia, but Octavia is a lovely name.
