I have never seen this used as a male name in Northern Europe.
In 2018, 2 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Nova who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 3, 351st most common female first name for living U.S. citizens.
Nova is my family’s surname actually. There is also a Professional baseball pitcher currently with the Pittsburgh Pirates Ivan Nova, there was also a former Supreme Court Justice with that last name in the 40s. I never knew until recently people actually had it as a first name. Seems like an odd first name to me but like I said, it’s our last name.
Nova may also be used as a boy's name. In some Northern parts of Europe it is actually very masculine.
I've never met a girl named Nova but there are several guys at my school named Nova. I honestly prefer it on a girl though.
