Great alternative to the overused Mia and Eva without sounding too similar. Multicultural and understated name and brings to mind the talented Nina Simone and Nina Dobrev. Good name!
Nina is an okay name not a good name but not a bad name either overall it's a decent name and if you want to name your daughter Nina then go for it at least no girl with the name Nina gonna get bullied for it.
My name is Nina and I have never liked it on myself, probably because I associate it with my stupid self. But I like it for someone else. These people who write hate comments on this name are jerks. Sorry for being so dumb; Nina is a great name I just associate it too much with myself. I call myself Ninabella-Elisavette; I think that's prettier. But Nina is decent.
So cute, simple and pretty. πŸ’–πŸ’–.
I don't care for this name. It reminds me of ninny. Also, I've never known any outstanding or professional women with this name. All the women I knew named Nina were basically trash with sketchy backgrounds. The type who got pregnant in high school.
My name is Nina. Growing up I did not like it or dislike it. Now as an adult, I like it more. It is not overused and it is still easy enough to pronounce. I think it has a happy/upbeat "vibe" to it that is feminine, culturally diverse and elegant. Sorry some people think it is ugly. I have always associated the name with very educated, accomplished, engaging and kind women. I like my name. : )
A favourite of mine, I think it's quite popular at the moment.
It is on my list. Cute, unique, vintage, modern, simple, sweet, refined, upper class, NOT overused. I love LOTS of names that end in INA, or LINA or have similar sounds, this one is less frilly but girly... With all the Noras and Novas (I like but know SO MANY), Nina will fit in but also stand out. It does not require a nickname, which is nice bc sometimes the nickname can be a deal breaker on many names.
My name is Nina. I love it. I didn't love it growing up but now as a mature adult, I value it. I pronounce it Nee-Nah. Not Nie-Nah. I get compliments on my name from both men and women. It is not so common that it is overused but not so hard to spell or pronounce. I find it an elegant and polished name. I find very educated, stylish and successful women have been named Nina. It is an interesting name. You likely won't know 5 different Ninas in your lifetime. Sorry if people find the name "boring" or "ugly". I love that I have a name that can be sweet, optimistic or exotic/sexy/mysterious...
It's a short, simple, and sweet name that is great on a baby girl!
Ugly.
Short and sweet. I have never met a Nina I didn't like. Ninas have big dreams and big ideas.
Beautiful! This name is so adorable. I love it.
Not bad. Simple name, but feels also strong at the same time. Nina has something interesting. Not of my favorites, but it's okay.
Reminds me of a bratty, stuck up girl. It's still better than Tina though.
I have no appreciation for this name at all. I find it bland, boring, and very plain, and having to grow up being named "Nina" was a hardship. I distinctly remember disliking it for most of my life, as I always wanted a longer, prettier name. Although my parents seem to think that it's elegant and pretty, I think that it is very simple and plain. I have to go with my full name now, Nina Alexandra (first and middle), since Nina on its own is so unlike me. I was always jealous of people with longer names; even longer spellings of a short name. And the sound of "Nina" just sounds ugly to me.
I love the English pronunciation.
Nina sounds like a mature and sweet name for a girl. I really don't like the "NIE-nah" pronunciation, however.
Nina was the name of my calico kitten. I also had a favorite childhood book with a character called Nina. I lost that book...Anyway, I love this name.
I don’t like this name that much, I think the pronunciation of Nine uh is disgusting, Nee nuh on the other hand isn’t so bad. Both pronunciations are not that attractive. Neena sounds like a little girls name who is helpless. I met a girl named Nina once too, she was a narcissist and a hypocrite, she was very rude and full of her self.
I've actually never heard of the nine - ah pronunciation. I don't like it very much, though. It sounds very harsh. I do love nee - nah, however! It's a great name, though I'd probably pair it with something less flowy. I didn't used to like this name, but it's really growing on me!
My name is Nina. I get compliments on it a lot and people generally like it. Occasionally people just can’t get it and will call me Mia. My close friends call me neener wiener which I doubt anyone else will have to worry about though. Overall a very pretty name.
Planning to call my next little girl Nina Rose. Just worried that she will be picked on. Nina kinda sounds like an ambulance sound lol. Still love the name though!
My name is Nina I'm very used to people saying "Oh that's a beautiful name," and honestly I love my name. I think that anyone that has the name Nina would also think this too.
This is a simple but beautiful name, it is common enough to not sound strange - but it's not as popular as Sarah or Olivia. Fun fact: People trust strangers with easier-to-pronounce names more than strangers with difficult-to-pronounce names.
Whenever I see this I think of the little girl from the Professor Layton movie. So it always sounded like a nickname for a small girl.
The prettiest girl I know is named Nina. I was in high school choir with a girl who pronounced her name Nine-ah and I didn't really like her. I think if you're going to spell your name like Nina it should be pronounced Nee-na and if you want to pronounce it like Nine-ah you should spell it Nyna.
Nina is a versatile name suitable for any age. It is cute and short, like Amy or Erin. This was my late mom's favourite name that she never got to use on a child. She did finally get a pug puppy last year, and named her Nina! But sadly my mom died a few months later. Nina had to be rehomed, but fortunately my mom's friends adopted her and kept the name Nina that meant so much to my mom. Nina the pug is happy and well and her youthful, fun, friendly nature suits this name down to the ground. :-)
Not a fan, personally, although it is becoming more popular again here in Australia. I have met plenty of middle-aged Nina's. I think it sounds a bit nasal, especially with the Australian accent. Also, it sounds a bit like a kid pretending to be an ambulance siren. I think there was also a character on Days of Our Lives called this name.
I'm surprised people would pronounce it Ny-nah. That sounds like air traffic control or something. "Nin-er Nin-er zero, you are cleared for take-off" But that's just being silly, isn't it.
My name is Nina, I come from Croatia and it's not a very common name here. My mother named me after her favorite childhood doll and I have personally always loved the name because it's so feminine, elegant, short and kind of singsongy. I have many nicknames, including Nini, Ninus, Ninush, Ninochka and Ninchi. I think that it's a sexy, beautiful, unique name and everybody who has it should be happy about it.
My aunt goes by Nina. Her name is Nicole.
I always hated the name. As someone who is not feminine in the least, to have the name Nina Rose, literally meaning Girl Flower, I always detested the name, as it would always give people a very feminine impression of me. It sounded like the name a girl in a flowing dress would have, not a young woman in a Black Veil Brides shirt and Doc. Martens. So I changed it. Simple as that, no fuss, no whining, just changed it.
Don’t hate your name for one. Also my name is Nina Rose and I love my name even though I’m not flowery, and actually am very tomboyish. You’re on this site to respect names and to be honest, nobody cares about how much you hate it.
I just wanted to say that, even though this name is always in the movies and on tv, it bores me. Sorry if I offend anyone :(
My name is Antonina but I go as Nina. I really liked the name and thought it was really cute and made me seem a lot younger, in highschool I got a few nicknames - Nini Pinini was the first one which turned into Nini, PP and Nini P. It's a nice name and not so popular, I've only met 2 other people with the same name.
This is my name, and I pronounce it Nee-na (though I am American). Some people do pronounce it Nie-na (like one of my middle school librarians who called me Nie-na for three years straight... At the time, I was too scared to correct her.) Either way, I don't mind my name. I sometimes think it's boring, but then I just use my middle name as well. Now that I'm older I appreciate my name a lot more. People always tell me that it is pretty, and usually people can pronounce it easily. It's not too popular, but also not too unusual. I still prefer my sister's name though (Sonia). I think that is just such a beautiful name.
This name isn't bad, but it sounds a bit sharp and needley somehow.
My name is Nina. I don't love it but I don't hate it. It's pronounced NEE-NAH. I live in England UK.
I like that I've never met anyone called Nina as I dislike common names like Louise, Claire, Amy, Emma etc. It's short and simple. I think it can sound girly, cute, smart, sexy and mysterious but can also sound harsh, quick and sharp.I HATE nicknames Nin or Neen. I don't mind Ni or NiNi but I like being called Nina the most.
I think this is a beautiful, feminine name. I'm a Kindergarten teacher, and I had a student with this name last year. It is not a name I've seen in my school, so if someone is looking for a unique but very pretty name, this certainly is one. It was pronounced NEE-na.
I personally have always loved the name Nina, it's a very attractive name, sophisticated, and sounds great. When I was younger I always wanted a daughter with this name.
Nina does have a very simple, vaguely cutesy feel to it. It just feels like a diminutive. Hence why in the fanfiction I'm writing, one of the protagonists named his pet fox Nina.
This is my first name-my mother says she picked it for me because she has loved this name all her life and wanted a daughter named Nina since she was little. I used to hate it when I was younger, but now I love my name. It's short and simple, yet sophisticated, and it has a soft and dreamy sound so people say it suits me very well :)
It's a very cute name, but perhaps a little too cute, and a little nickname-y.
My parents gave me this name because it was so simple to pronounce. I thought that was a crap reason originally, but now I like it because it sounds slightly abstract and modern and Russian! XD I know that's a stupid reason but therein lies its appeal to me.
Nina is a cool almost sexy name. It could work on anyone. Here in the United States it is pronounced Nee-na. Not Ny-nuh. That's just strange!
My name is also Nina. And I like it a lot. Only thing I don't like about my name is that a lot of my friends are also named Nina. Name Nina is really very common in Slovenia.
It's a pretty, simple name that doesn't sound too girly on a grown-up, but it's very common, and even a bit dull.
My name is Nina and I never liked it as small girl. But as I am older, I really like it, even if now it is quite popular where I live.
I mostly go by as Nini (my favourite), Ninka, Ninus, Ninuska. There can be so many cute nicknames for Nina. :)
My name is Nina, I never used to like it when I was younger but as I have got older I appreciate having a name that is a bit different, I think it is a simple, feminine name that suits all ages, also in England where I am from it is pronounced Nee-Na!
It`s short and simple, yet strong and sophisticated.
I actually like the name Nina. I don't know why I really like it. Maybe because it's so simple, soft and dreamy.
My name is Nina and I absolutely positively HATE this name because it sounds so imature and childish. I have never heard of ANYONE being named Nina that is over 40! It's okay for a child but it is absolutely UNSUITABLE for people over 30. The way it is pronounced and the original meaning ALL point to the word LITTLE CHILD! It is a horrible thing to behold.
Nina is a really beautiful name. It's feminine, yet sophisticated. It's rare enough to be fairly unusual but common enough not to be weird. And to the girl who said it was not for anyone over 30: Nina Totenberg, for one, is smart, savvy, and a STAR.
Beautiful name!
