It's really a stupid name, I mean, Smelly Nelly?
Don’t like the sound. The ‘n’ doesn’t bother me, it’s the ‘elly’ that I don’t like. It just doesn’t sound nice in my opinion.
I grew up to think Nelly was another word for the female breast. Lmao.
Tacky.
I really really like Nelly! I think I always have. It's quite logical that I would like it because I love Helen(a), Eleanor, Cornelia... and I like sweet, vintage, girly nicknames. I slightly prefer Nelly as a nickname for something longer, but it's good on its own as well. I think the spelling Nellie is slightly more aesthetically pleasing and I just like it a little more, though it used to be the other way around in the past and I liked Nelly a bit more. I really like how sweet and girly, gentle but lively at the same time this name is, no matter the spelling. I could happily name my potential daughter Helena or Kornelia and nickname her to Nelly/Nellie/Neli sometimes.
I do not like the name Nelly.
Could also be short for Penelope.
My name is Nika, but one of my teachers gave me a nickname Nelly. Because she watched a movie about a little girl Nelly that loved swimming and because we were at the seaside with school and I also love swimming, she gave me the nickname Nelly. And I love that nickname. I would gladly name my daughter Nelly but I guess I would rather choose the Slovenian form Neli.
And not to forget we have a dog named Nelly.
This is a sweet, cute name. ^^
I do like this name (with a preference on the ie spelling) but I couldn't name a child it because every time I hear it I think of the song 'Nelly the Elephant'.
I like this name, but I prefer the spelling Nellie, which looks way prettier and feminine to me, and it doesn't remind me of horrible singers like Nelly and Nelly furtado.
This name is so wonderful, it's overflowing with youth and still maintaining maturity, especially when its original form, Nell/e is used. It also reminds me of Nelly (Nellie?) Lovett from Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, which is a plus for me.
I don't like the name. It doesn't sound mature, sophisticated, or dignified to me. It sounds girly and even quite old-fashioned, and it doesn't give the impression of high intelligence.
