Was only ever in the girls' top 1,000 in the United States from the 1880s to the 1960s, with its mild peak of popularity in 1920 (132nd position). In modern times it's considered grannyish and it's bad enough for a modern baby girl to have that name, let alone a modern baby boy to have a name like Muriel.
