128 boys were named Monroe in the US in 2016. It's a great name for a boy, very cute when they are little and very handsome and manly when they are grown. Terrible on girls though.
My daughter's middle name is Monroe. I just realized looking her name up I gave her a masculine name. London Monroe. And her sister's name is Charleston Sofia. But I like it because they are unique.
"Monroe," which is my own name, has been a male name in my family for at least four generations. My great grandfather, born in 1854 was the first of whom I know. According to howmanyofme.com, 99.9% of the Monroes in the United States are male; I am guessing that the source is the most recent census, but I may be wrong about that. Outside of my family, I have encountered only perhaps a dozen Monroes in the last 60 years, all of them males.
