Mona is Old English for 'moon', and in Sanskrit it means 'alone/unique'. In Arabic it means 'wishes'.

Mona can also be a Manx name or word referring to the Isle of Man. Unlike this meaning, it is not an English version but comes from the oldest known name given to the island, Manu or Mana. Caesar actually referred to the island under this name - 'an island called Mona which lies midway across the sea separating Britain from Ireland.'
