In Spain the informal word for "fat roll" (the annoying fat on the belly) is "michelín" ("michelines" if it's plural)... which is pronounced exactly like this name, just with a harsher ch. It was because of the tire company logo, everyone thought the logo was the personification of fat rolls so it stuck.
