I’m not a fan of the name McKayla but I feel like if your gonna name your child this and it’s pronounced similar to Mckayla or is just an alternative spelling. Mckayla would be the best way to spell it because this just looks like all the boring, dull, and unimaginative Masculine Feminized names I’ve seen on this website. The name isn't bad the spelling just irks me.
Michaela is beautiful, lovely, and fun, but McKayla isn’t great.
Personally, I prefer the Makayla spelling to this one, but I can appreciate the history of Michaela. If you want to name your daughter Michael, definitely consider Michaela instead!
Idk why people in the comments are being so rude about this name! It is a beautiful classic, and McKayla, Mikayla, Makaela, ect. Are just people trying to be yooneeck and kreeayetyvv with the spelling. If you want something less common, don't use Makayla, use Michaela! It baffles me when the modern alternate spellings that are trying to be unique are more popular than the originals!
An ugly looking name that is not pronounced like Michael at all (maybe we pronounce Michael wrong too, but everyone at least agrees on the same pronunciation). Mikayla is a better spelling for how Michaela is pronounced. Or if you don’t like made up spellings, you could choose the name Michelle instead.
It's just Michael with an A in the end.
Honestly, the variants below are ugly and I hardly even like this name in general.
It's nice but I prefer Mikayla and Makayla.
My whole life I looked for someone who had the same issue with the pronunciation of their name Michaela. As Mi-shella. My father also made this name to be pronounced as mi-shella and when anyone else says the name like the most commonly used Mikayla, I don't correct them because that in itself gets tiring. I don't like how Mikayla sounds at all. I should have been spelled like Michella so the misconception wouldn't be there. Anyway. I thought I was the only one with this issue.
It's okay, I guess, but in my opinion, this feminization of Michael looks a little too...forced.
I like it. It’s a nice feminization of Michael.
Very dated!
Best spelling of 'Mikayla'!
Actually, lol, too many vowels. Why not just Mikaela?
I like this name, it's even on my personal name list. Unfortunately it look's like a forced feminization of the name "Michael" but I still like it. I just prefer McKayla, or Mkayla.
EDIT: I've changed my mind. Michaela is a perfectly good spelling.
I love how cool this spelling looks!
I absolutely love this name! Mikaela is beautiful, too. This name was popular in the USA in the '80s. I have noticed that on this name page, many people have commented, "No one knows how to pronounce this name, just use Mckayla." However, on the Mckayla name page, many people have commented, "What is so hard about using Michaela? Please tell me!" I personally like both Michaela and Mckayla. They are both simple and sweet. :)
This spelling looks weird. I'd just use McKayla.
It's a pretty name. This spelling looks nice, along with Mikaela. I dislike the other spellings.
This name is only good if it's spelled this way!
This is my name and I think it's fine. Some people are saying it's hard to pronounce. At my school people don't really make fun of me but they just say stuff like mi-shay-la but they aren't making fun of me. I don't really care if they say it because I ain't ashamed of my name.
I really really love this name. It sounds very unique to me, because we don't use it much here in Poland, instead we have our more familiar form Michalina. I like both, both are really lovely and I like that they can be nicknamed to the very soft-sounding Misia, but Michaela sounds more elegant to me. It has lots of charm to it and is very melodic in my opinion. I really like the nickname Micha or Misha, well in fact I have a cat named Misha who is a boy, but I like Misha on both genders, it's just so CUTE. I suppose I could use Michaela on my potential child, though I'm afraid it could feel a little snobbish to most people, which I wouldn't like definitely. The thing I don't like about it is its English pronunciation and the abundance of spellings. I really dislike it pronounced as Makayla, and while some of the more creative spellings look even cool, I think there's nothing like the classic form Michaela. I, being Polish, automatically pronounce it as mee-hah-E-lah, but as a lover of Swedish language and Swedish learner I also adore the mee-ka-E-la pronunciation and the spelling Mikaela is lovely as well. When I think of a person with the name Michaela, I imagine a young girl, a teenager I guess, with long, thick, chestnut or black hair, either loose or in a pony tail, healthy, tanned, dark complexion, I guess that's what's called olive complexion, round, expressive face with rosy cheeks, big, hazel eyes full of spark with long and dark eyelashes. She's tall, not overweight but a little round I'd say, just looks very healthy and full of temper. She's strong and active, likes to move around and do lots of things. She can be a bit explosive and rebellious sometimes. Nevertheless, she's kind-hearted, loves to help people out and tends to be very zealous about what she believes in. She makes a great big sister, is an excellent cook, likes to care for others but is a bit bossy and possessive, it's just the way she shows that she cares about someone. She's sensitive, moved easily, can act impulsively and emotionally. She's sharp and witty, good with small-talk and some deeper conversations, but it's easy to start an argument with her on just about anything. Not a deadly argument, and she will quickly forget about it, but it just shows that she likes to argue and have dynamic conversations. She also likes to gossip a bit. She's extroverted and loves socializing, is very dexterous and likes doing things with her own hands. Michaela also has some interest in spiritual matters, even though at a first glance she might appear shallow. She is protective of her loved ones, particularly those who she feels depend on her in any way. Michaela has a heart of gold, her weakness is that she just acts a bit too quickly most times. She likes everything beautiful, luxurious and likes comfort. She is a practical person, and very down to earth, she's very much solution focused. Not the best listener, but always has a good piece of advice and always there to help you practically deal with your problems rather than whine about them and just express her empathy. Sometimes she may appear a little tough. That's of course just how I imagine a person with this name, not how I think all Michaelas are like, especially since I don't know a single one personally.
Why do people get so worked up over different spellings? Who cares! Imagine a name like Ashley with no variants! I mean, playing with the spelling can give it its own identity & uniqueness. I think it’s perfectly fine to do & no one can stop you!
I know and have seen SO many different spellings of this beautiful name! For the sake of people not falling asleep while reading this I will only list my top few that I've seen:Makayla
Makaylah
Makala
Mikalah
Michalea
Mikaela
Makkalah
McaylahMy personal favorite spelling is: Mikaela. I feel it looks the best and makes the most sense pronunciation wise.
I used to hate this name and think it sounded like an annoying snobby popular girl. But now I've grown more of a liking to it due to the biblical meaning (that is, of Michael). I was actually going to be named this.
Makayla is a better name and is the correct way to spell it.
This name is literally the ugliest name ever, everyone is saying it is so nice and elegant and all that but this name just makes me want to throw up.
I love this name - so much so, that I chose it for my only daughter, Mikaela. We went with the Scandinavian spelling, so that she would hopefully avoid the people that pronounce the classic spelling "Michael-uh". We also liked some of the newer spellings that have modernized the name, such as Makayla and Mikayla, but eventually, Mikaela won our hearts with its streamlined look, Scandinavian spelling and distinction. We have been surprised with how many ways people spell the name on her birthday cards, etc. Doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. Even still, we love the name and its meaning: "Gift from God". Our daughter suits the name perfectly.
I disagree with some of the other comments saying that 'no one knows how to pronounce it' because everyone I have ever met has known how to pronounce it. In school when people read my name off of folders or whatever it is they need to give me, they know how to pronounce it even if I haven't met them. So it's not that hard to pronounce. Maybe for some people it is but that's not the point. My point is no matter how you spell it it's a beautiful name that anyone is lucky to have.
Michelle is much prettier.
Lovely name but looks better spelt Makayla! Looks much more stylish and elegant :)
My name is Michaela. I always hated it growing up because NO ONE ever got the pronunciation right Except my 7th grade Spanish teacher, but she remembered me & my name because she said I reminded her of a young Elizabeth Taylor! When I was in 9th grade I decided I was going to change the spelling to something more "hip & cool" so I started spelling it "Makaila". But now that I'm 32 years young I do really like my name except for the fact I turn around every time I hear my name being called, but then I see they're actually calling for a little girl & not me! But anyway, most my friends call me by my nickname of Kay-Kay;)
I agree with the general consensus established here. Michaela, a legitimate feminine form of Michael, is a nice name. It's strong but has the perfect amount of femininity and is less boring than Michelle. However, the kre8yv spellings (Makayla, McKayla, Mikayla, etc.) are just tacky and rather trashy, so I am also wondering why they surged ahead of this, the original and proper spelling, in popularity.
I don't like this name, I find Michaela and its spellings to be ugly.
I am Michaela. For most of my life I was embarrassed of the name my parents had given me at birth... a name that was not popular, hard to pronounce and subjected to ridicule by friends and even teachers. At the age of 50 I now appreciate having such an amazingly beautiful name. It fits me perfectly :)
My name is spelled Makayla.
Michaela is my middle name. It's feminine, beautiful and rolls off the tongue. My father's name is Michael, so I was named after him. Personally, I find this spelling to be the most classic and presentable. Variations like Makayla, McKayla, and Mikaela look completely odd to me. DO choose this spelling.
People seem to hate on the spelling of my name. I've come to love it. I was born way back when, before it had this odd spike in popularity. My parents chose it because they weren't fond of people mispronouncing Michaela, "Michael-Uh." So they chose to spell it phonetically, at least phonetically in the English pronunciation. I hated my name for a very long time, but one of my close friends is Michaela and our group has commented on how well they fit us. Michaela, her version is much more traditional, more elegant, subtle. It fits her softer demeanor better. Makayla, it's harsher, louder and more blatant, there's nothing wrong with that, I'm not a girly person so it fits. I personally think they're both beautiful. Makayla=Michaela.
My daughter has this name. I though I would share our spelling of it. It is spelled Makaielah. I wanted a traditional German sounding name since that is our heritage.
Michaela is a pretty cute name. ^ᴗ^ It has such a powerful meaning. I favour and rate this traditional spelling much higher than the other variants. Oh, and who wouldn't want to be called by the nickname "Mickey"? (Hey, I like Mickey Mouse, okay!?) All the more reason to ♥ this awesome name. :D.
My name is Michaela and to the people saying it's ugly, please stop being rude. Yes, teachers and a lot of people don't pronounce it right but it takes what? Two seconds to correct them? In my opinion my names unique and the way it's spelled is better than Makayla which is used all the time. By the way, it's not your name so don't worry about it. What if someone is saying your name is ugly? Have some respect, we didn't choose our name to be spelt this way.
If you're going to name your daughter Mikaela/ Makayla/ Mikayla/ whatever you come up with. Don't. Spell it THIS WAY.
I don't particularly like names that have dozens of different spelling variations and 'Michaela' is no exception. But I do prefer the spelling Michaela to others, it looks more genuine. It's extremely common in Australia to the point where it's the average working class girl name. I had a class with three 'Michaela's and all of them spelt the name differently: Mikhaila, Mikayla, Michaela. I've also seen McKayla, Mikaela, Makayla and Mikaila. I don't really understand why this name is so popular, it's not ugly but it's not pretty either.
I agree that it's quite sad how unpopular this spelling is, and spellings like 'Mikayla', 'Makayla' and 'Mikaela' are so popular. I believe 'Makayla' is even in the top 100. Yes, when pronounced in English, it does sound like it has the name Kayla in it. But if I'm not mistaken, this name came about before Kayla was even invented. It's meant to be a feminine form of Michael, not 'McKayla'. The name itself sounds a little too cutesy to me although the spelling does look really pretty (funny, because its just michael with an a). I feel like it should really be pronounced the correct way, "mee-kah-ELL-a" which actually, is quite exotic and beautiful. All in all, if you really have to use this name, PLEASE spell it correctly! I do like this name if its pronounced mi-kah-ELL-a, and you could always nickname her Ella or ellie if no one pronounces it correctly.
This is my name. At first I liked it, then I hated it and began wishing for a new name, then I started loving it, and now my feelings are mixed. The countless variations continue to increase in popularity, and I have run into countless other people with the name, and that number is continually increasing. No, I do not count spelling, because it is still the same name. Each night I pray that its popularity will decline by just a bit... so you may want to reconsider naming your child this for a while. I wish it were less common :(
Personally, I like this spelling over all the others. Even if it has nothing to do with Greek names and does not sound like one, this spelling, somehow, reminds me of names in ancient Greek mythology that sound especially beautiful or strong or awesome or unique that you'd never really name your kids (even though you'd really like to) that people are prone to mispronounce at some point. The other spellings just simplify it and sound too trendy, no offense to people with those spellings. However, in any spelling, I personally think we should stop naming kids this; not because it's ugly but because we should try and preserve its lack of popularity. That way, it'll sound more unique and rare. If you agree with me, please reply right away!
This is my sisters name and I think that it is really pretty though my family call her Miki or Kayla. My parents spelled it Michaela because it is after my uncle Mike who was still born.
It's sort of hilarious that the misspellings (Mikayla/Makayla/whatever) are super overused, but the correct spelling came in as the 392nd most popular name in 2010. I don't even like Michaela, but whenever I see a little girl with this name I feel like I should congratulate the parents for spelling it right.
I find it funny that people think that is spelling is beautiful. It looks so ugly and any one who has never heard the pronunciation of this name is gonna think it's pronounced "Michael" with an "a" following it.
Unlike all of you, I like the alternative spellings of Michaela. Mikalah and Mikayla are definitely my favorites. Michaela looks very unoriginal, and, despite being uncommon, makes me feel like it's just Michael - a very common name.
Despite my strong dislike for its masculine counterpart, I kind of like Michaela. It's by no means a name I'd consider for my hypothetical future daughter, but it's rather nice. I can see this name on pretty much everyone, from an little baby to a grandma. I don't really like any nicknames for it though. Micky reminds me of Mickey Mouse, I dislike the name Kayla and due to my hatred for the name Michael anything that could also be short for that makes me cringe. The name does however make me think of Dr. Quinn, Medicine woman right away. It's not exactly a bad association though. Dr. Michaela Quinn was a strong character.
I really can't stand this name. I hate the way it sounds and looks. I like some female names derived from male names, but I usually don't like it when a female name is simply a male name with an 'a' at the end of it. Although I do have to admit that this spelling is much better than alternatives such as Makayla or Mckayla.
This is my best friend's name & I think it fits her perfectly! The only bad part is people almost always pronounce it wrong:( I would recommend this name, & I think Micky is a good nickname for it:)
This is my name! And I LOVE it and I haven't heard ANYONE with the same name as me from pre-k - high school! People make my name SO COMPLEX! And people say it the Mexican way! I'm not MEXICAN! So don't say it in the MEXICAN WAY! People would spell my name like Mcala!? I'm named after my dad Michael
But people spell my name MICHAEL or call me MICHAEL for attendance! There's a freackin A at the end! MichaelA! But I still LOVE my name! Michaela (I hate the name MICHELLE!)
I like this name, but it's become so common with all of the misspellings.
This is my favourite spelling of Michaela. Absolutely hate Makayla, though I like Mikaela.
This is my name :) but mine's really strange because it's pronounced MIKIE LA, lol. I don't think anyone else says it like that. I used to hate it but now I love my name it's different and it's a laugh to see a new teacher tries to pronounce it but I don't mind that some people can't say it. I get called Kyla mostly never Michy I don't like that name. :)
Only one thing I can say: pretty! (:
My name is Jordan Michaela, and I love it. I say Michaela like "mick-ah-la". People usually say it wrong, they usually say it like Mikayla, but oh well, it's not really too bad. I also like other spellings of my name though. Like Mikaela and Mikala.
Sounds nice; looks ugly.
I love this name! It is so pretty, and so is the spelling! I hate how people spell it in such odd ways; I personally think that "Michaela" looks best! (:Beautiful name, by the way! Anyone would be lucky to have it. (:
Well, I love this name. Spelled this way. I also like the variant Mikaela. Mainly, because that spelling doesn't ruin the name like Makayla or crap like that (no offense to anyone named Makayla) because there are some languages that spell Michael, "Mikael" & when I see Michaela I think of chalk and then I think if a pretty little girl.
Michaela should only be spelled this way. Any other modern variant just looks awful.
Michaela is a beautiful name. I like the spelling Michaela more than Makayla, Mickayla, Mckayla, or any other alternatives.
I really like this name and this spelling only. It's a shame a lot of people have butchered the spelling into Mikayla or Mackayla etc. Michaela is so much better.
This is a lovely name. It's a shame people have to ruin the spellings with such horrors such as "Mikayla", or, even worse, "Makayla".
This is my name and trust me it really isn't fun to have. People pronounce it wrong and spell it wrong. Even my friends. I never new anyone for years with a name like mine until all of the sudden I knew like 5 Mikayla's. Then you become a Mikayla not a Michaela. By the way it's supposed to be pronounced, at least in my case, like mi-kael-la.
As you can most likely figure out this IS my name. I enjoy both the German and American pronunciation of it. I have gotten about 120 different nicknames stemmed from mispronunciation or fun. But overall I love my name. For me it is even a relief when someone who also has my name spells it wrong because I am so used to no one else having my name that I am almost upset when someone does. Ha ha. Now that I am a junior in College I have grown to love it even more, I feel as though it reflects my individual personality. I can honestly say I would never want to change my name.
My parents shortened it to Mieke, because no one could pronounce it the German way. Then no one could pronounce Mieke so it was changed to Micky. I like it but it is a mouthful.
This name is ok I guess, but I think Michelle is a much prettier name.
I think it's a nice name, and something different, much nicer than Michelle! Michelle is horrible! Michaela is lovely.
This is the way the name should be spelled. It's SUPPOSED to be Michael with an 'a' added to it, that's the point. Of course, in English, the name isn't pronounced like Michael at all. Germans might have more to complain about in terms of lack of femininity, but in English, the name sounds very feminine. It's not a particularly classy or sophisticated name, but at least spelling it right is a good start. I hate the nickname Kayla and would rather use the nickname Miki, it is very cute.
I used to like it, before the sudden boom of popularity and stupid misspellings. Why take a name that looks pretty - MICHAELA - and spell it like it's an old Scottish surname - McKayla? Why why why? Looks so ugly.
I love this name! It's so gorgeous! I think it is pronounced like McKayla.
My mum's name is this, spelt this way, but she gets called Kay. I definitely prefer this spelling to any other variations!
I think this spelling is much prettier than Makayla, which had such a boost in popularity for no apparent reason.
I think this name is very pretty. I once met a sweet little Mikaela but I prefer the Michaela spelling. :)
Eight or so years ago I loved the name Michaela, but now I'm not so fond of it. The popularity and "creative" ways of spelling the name somewhat ruined it for me. Some of the spellings are just too out there.I feel sorry for families at the park calling out "Makayla/Michaela/etc, it's time to go," and a half dozen little girls look up and say "Just five more minutes, Mommy." But then that would be the situation for any popular name at any given time.
I have always liked the name Michaela, with this traditional spelling. I like the name Michaela Bryn.
I love this name but hate its modern variants. Some names you can change the spelling, some you just can't.
Michaela is a gorgeous, classic name when spelled correctly (which is rare!)
Spelled Makayla it is *HORRID* but this way it is lovely.
I like this better than Makayla. I wonder why it is the spelling Makayla that has become so popular, rather than the more classical spelling Michaela.
This is my name, and I never really liked it. People can't spell it, and when the song "Mickey" comes on the radio or at a social at school I want to crawl under a log and die. But when my friends talk about my name, they say it's pretty and different. I began liking my name when my German teacher said it with a German accent and I've began liking it again. Plus no one calls me Michaela anyway, they all call me Michi (Mickie).
I love this classic, traditional spelling. Michaela is a beautiful name if spelled correctly.
I like this spelling, as well as Micaela.
