Beautiful, and seems like it has linguistic links to the Spanish merecer, meaning deserve, which is really cool.

My sister's name is Mercury. Everyone she meets says that they don't really think of the poisoning, only the planet. Which is, what she likes, the planet Mercury. And I seriously hope that someone does not call my parents insane and a moron.
My best friend's name is Merqurie (a more interesting spelling) and I adore it! I think that the unique spelling differentiates it from the spelling of a boy.
For obvious reasons, one would have to be insane or a complete MORON to name a child this. Perhaps they have 'Mercury Poisoning' speaking of which, Mercury poisoning has been known to cause autism in children and babies. Also, I'm certain that anyone who comments on how they "like" the name is either, A: lying straight to you or B: Referring to Sebastian. I'd refuse to call someone by 'Mercury'. I just wouldn't do it. Being named that alone would be deeply degrading and embarassing.

My son's name is Mercury. (Mercury Sebastian) We have only had positive feedback about it. He is the only one we know. Sadly for him, he is not light on his feet or fast like the Messenger God. He's an athlete though, and his name sounds great when they call his name out over the loud speakers at a game.
Based on no facts at all, I've always thought that Mercury was a common horse's name. Especially for quick runners. Maybe because of the god and because it's another word for quicksilver?

Sound: 4/10. It does not flow smoothly and does not sound nice to me. Spelling: 10/10 Uniqueness: 10/10 Overall: 8.5/10 I like it but I do not love it. Cheers!
I was surprised to find out that this is a name. I like how it's largely associated with Freddie Mercury, because he was quite an amazing person. However, there is a lot of slagging that can go on due to it. Can't you imagine lots of comments like "Haha poisonous metal," "Haha dwarf planet," and "Haha gay guy"? Ridiculous as it is, a lot of people will be immature like that.
I like the association of mythology. Hermes/Mercury's domain can be summed up as those who live by their hands, which included farmers, thieves, traders, travelers, etc. I think it would be a good name for a book character, a sort of vagabond guy.
Honestly, I never knew this could be a first name. I must say, it's actually highly intriguing; I'm beginning to consider it. I love how it is automatically associated with none other than the legendary Freddie Mercury, of course, as I've always admired him.
In a way, it's a really cool name, but it sounds a bit, or more like a lot like a pseudonym rather than a real name. It might just wind up sounding tacky and give people the impression the parents were immature or big fans of Queen, and some people might not have high expectations of anyone with this name. But it is pretty cool.
I love this name, and not just because of Freddie Mercury! (Though I do like that assosiation.) I like names that begin with M, and also names with the letter R in them. Mercury has both those letters. I wouldn't use it on a person, though (although it's a cool last name). I guess it's just one of those names that just strikes me as cool for no huge reason. I like it.
