Mercedes is a feminine name which is also bold and Mercedes Lomelino from The GEM Sisters, the car is decent as well, so i like the name, but i don't currently know a girl with this name irl.
I absolutely adore this name! It makes me think of a sweet and kind person! A cute middle name would be Annette or Thea! I think a good nickname would be Mercie or Sadie!

I really like the name Mercedes. It's beautiful & unique to me. I've never met a Mercedes. The fact that it's a car doesn't bother me. Makes it more cool!. I love the nickname is Merci.
Probably gonna get downvoted but if I heard this name I would just immediately think of the car, sorry.

This was my late grandmother's name. Whenever I hear this name, I always remember her kindness, the warmth of her laughter and the joy of her smile. She was a wonderful nana. RIP Nana Merci.
The difference between Mercedes and Porsche is that Mercedes was used as a given name long before the car existed and was in fact named after a girl called Mercedes.

I adore Mercedes for a name! I think it's gorgeous. The association with the Virgin Mary is beautiful, of course, and personally, I also love the Mercedes-Benz association, as well! I think it makes the name even cooler! And, I mean, think about it: A car takes you places. You journey in them. You also do the same in life. That being said, I think that would be a beautiful meaning.I also really like the name because, not only does it age beautifully (in my opinion), but I also feel like it has a good balance between feminine yet not too “frilly”. In other words, I can easily picture a Mercedes as a beautifully curvaceous girly-girl with gorgeous luscious hair, big wide eyes, a bright smile and pretty breasts, who loves shopping, wearing makeup, playing with little puppies and creating TikTok videos; however, I can just as easily picture a Mercedes as a cool athletic tomboy with a sexy laugh, backwards cap, expensive sports jersey, ripped boyfriend jeans and nice Air Jordan's, who loves beer, football, cars and having a good time with the guys.Regarding the few comments that have suggested naming your child Mercedes may lead to them dying in a car accident, I honestly think that's just superstition, at that point. I mean, in all honesty, yes, someone named Mercedes could possibly die in a car accident, but that's true for someone with any other name, as well. In-fact, many people with names other than Mercedes have died or been injured in car accidents, of course, so I don't think that should be a concern in naming your child Mercedes. My name is Breathe (yes, it is pronounced like the verb, and yes, it is my real name), so I understand the concerns about someone with the name Mercedes being teased/made fun of, as I've experienced countless harmless puns and jokes, such as “Just breathe, Breathe!”, “Take a breather”, etc. Ironically, I'm also an asthmatic, which obviously isn't helpful, haha. However, even though some people do innocently joke about my name, I'm so used to it by now that I honestly don't mind it, and it's still so worth having such a unique and uncommon name, in my opinion. Besides, people make fun of common names, as well, such as Amanda (by calling her “a man, duh”), Lana (by spelling it backwards), Virginia (by associating it with the unrelated word “vagina”).My point in saying all of that is this: Although it's understandable to be concerned about the stupid teasing kids may potentially come up with regarding your child's name, at the end of the day, it is YOUR child, not theirs. Mean people are going to be mean people, regardless of what your kid's name is. Therefore, you might as well just name your child whatever you desire, and I think Mercedes is a gorgeous choice, especially with the lovely nickname potentials, such as Mercy, Cede/Cedes, DeDe, etc. Also, if your name is Mercedes, keep goin’ strong, because you're awesome ;)
The name's so cool! My husband refuses to let me name my daughter after a car! Though, I like the meaning of mercy. I had a dream I was waiting in the dr's office to give birth and I could not choose between "Hope" and "Mercy" to name the child. I settled on Mercedes, in my dream... too bad I could not do so in reality. Yeah, it is bothersome a car is named so too. But it's a cool car. In a way it signifies strength as it is known to be one of the strongest cars... likewise, the name might be too "metallic" for me, finally, like the terminator or something, just because people are always gonna think of the car when you say Mercedes.I just read a comment below about a Mercedes dying in a car accident. That was always my secret fear about naming someone such- what if it affects their fate?
Having the name Mercedes isn't that bad. I don't think there is a way to mispronounce my name. I usually get called Sadie by my friends and family that are close to me. The only bad problem is that people like calling you Mercedes Benz but it does not bother me one bit. I wanted to change my name but I probably would never because it is unlikely to find someone everyday named Mercedes. My name comes from French cutler. I have no idea as ito why or how I got my name but I am proud of it.
It is nice but I can only associate it with the car brand.

My younger half sister’s name is Mercedes and she is currently living in Ecuador right now with my dad (my parents divorced six years ago). So whenever I visit my dad and his second family, I am usually amazed at how well received my younger sister’s name is down there. I also learned that the name has its origins with the Catholic icon of “Our Lady of Mercy”. So I think there is nothing inherently wrong with the name and one can simply dismiss the vehicle brand since, after all, the name did come first before the vehicle brand was ever invented.

I think this name could work in locations where the car brand reference is not as significantly associated with it as you may encounter in English speaking nations. Otherwise, I would say that it is a beautiful name.

Personally, my name is Mercedes and I absolutely hate it when people tease me or associate my name with the car, even if they're being nice or deciding to be a terrible person. I am extremely proud of my name and think it's very unique but it makes me feel really terrible when people make fun of it. I am not a car, I wasn't named after a car- my name means Virgin Mary. My parents named me Mercedes because they thought it was a beautiful name. Now stop calling your children or even your friends Mercedes Benz because personally it's my name and it's offensive and it devalidates me as a person.
The name Mercedes is an amazing name. Even now people always refer to my name as the car brand and I don't mind because at least it's a nice car and it's not really an insult. I love my name the older I get. No one is "stupid" to give their child this name. Everyone may have their own opinion about my name but at the end of the day my name is unique and I love it.
I might just call my daughter Mercedes. First of all, Mercy would be a varient of my own name: Grace. A man sent me (something special) that his daughter "made," her name was Mercedes and she died in a car accident at 18. The man sent the gift (expensive!) free to me, in memory of his daughter.

I named my daughter Mercedes in 2012. I was initially going to name her Jeanniah Karen Santos, but then one of my friends sent me a picture of a beautiful red Mercedes from a car show that they went to and then I started thinking about how much I really love the name Mercedes! So I ended up naming her Mercedes Jeanniah Karen Santos because parts of the name have emotional value to them and also when she gets older she can choose to be called whichever name she wants. I will never regret giving her the name that I did. I am still to this day very proud of her beautiful name and if people want to make fun of her while she's growing up about the association with her name and the vehicle- she nor I will be offended because it is a beautiful luxury vehicle and my daughter is beautiful and elegant and gracious, just like the car!
There are truly so many stupid people in this world. And I'm not talking about people who name their daughters Mercedes, I'm talking about people who call people who name their kids Mercedes stupid. People never fail to ignore cultural context. Mercedes is a perfectly normal and acceptable name, even if you yourself are not used to it. The car was named after a girl after all. Just because some people may need time to adjust to it doesn't mean the name itself is bad. Mercedes is a fine name.

Mercedes was a name my mother was going to use for me. Thank god my father, and possibly others, had an "No way in hell" attitude towards it.

This is my name.:D Little story time : When I was in kindergarten everyone made a fool of me because of my name (because of this car-thing). In primary school it was a little bit more worse, they kind of mobbed me. I'm in high school now and sure, there are people that still pick on me but it was getting better because everyone was growing up and everything. And also it's childish. I mean, sometimes I really cried and cried just because I listened to this stupid kids that insulted me because of a freaking name. It's just a name. I mean I had to "realize" that too, but it's really just a name. By the way, you can have cool nicknames when you are named Mercedes, for example the people call me Merci, Mercy but there are more like : Meme, Cedes, Cede,...So if your name is Mercedes, like mine, cheer up.

I've switched to using Mercedes, one of my middle names, from my first name almost two years ago. Long story, but it was a needed change personally. Yeah, I often get "like the car?" and some boyfriends' friends have had fun with it. But it's all good-natured and I don't really care. I've also probably gotten more compliments on it than anything else. Also, I love the nickname Cedes ("Sadies")!

This is a beautiful name I get asked a lot about the car thing but I respond with "No, like the Spanish name." The car thing ruins it a bit though.
I really don't think this name can get over Mercedes Benz - the name might have come first, but the fact is that the first thing people think of when they hear this name is "like the car?". It probably doesn't help that some people do pick this name from the car manufacturer. It's a pity, really, because it sound quite charming.
When I was a young girl in elementary school, I went to a play. One of the main actresses, after the play was over, was introduced. She was beautiful and elegant; her name was Mercedes. I always wanted to name my daughter that, this 20 years later I still want to. But, as an adult I have always drove a Mercedes so I am worried people would think I am naming my child after my possessions. So, unfortunately, I don't think I will get to name my daughter that.I have also had people make references that the name Mercedes is a "stripper" name. And they associate it with the ghetto.More reasons not to use it. But, I will always remember that beautifully elegant girl in that play named Mercedes.

I have always liked this name. To me it seems one of the most refined and elegant feminine names out there. It's sophisticated but has a less formal nickname (Mercy), it flows beautifully and unlike a lot of Spanish names it isn't overly unusual or difficult to pronounce for an English speaker. It's a shame about the association with the car. Too many people would think of that immediately and a child with this name would probably never hear the end of it. Even so, I'm not so sure I wouldn't be tempted to use it anyway, it's that good. For certain it would make a fine middle name.
It has a good meaning and a nice sound to it. I also have a fondness for this name because of the luxurious German automobile Mercedes Benz. You just can't go wrong with this name. It's a cool name to have and an awesome car to own/drive.

I know this is a Spanish name, and a very pretty one at that, but I feel that some people are just using it because they are obsessed with the car.
This is my first name. I would get the whole 'like the car?' question, and reply with something like 'No, like the banana'. Or something to move off topic so they wouldn't move on to ask if they could 'drive/ride me'. But I still like the name a lot! I decided to go by Mercy in highschool to avoid those comments. People call me either one, mostly Mercy though. I've been called Cede or Cedes randomly by a couple people, I liked it. One of my old boyfriends called me Cedes before we started going out and sometimes during, I felt special since no one else called me that. :P People say that I fit my name when I go by Mercy. Technically it *is* my name since Mercedes is the Spanish word for Mercy. I read it and was like "SCORE!" Hehe. I would recommend this name, it's really pretty. The trick is to be introduced with one of the nicknames and gradualy let people know your real name is Mercedes. It tended to decrease the amount of annoying comments very successfully! And the first thing they say is usually that it's very pretty or something else really nice. (:
Although a car was named for a girl named Mercedes and having this name might make people think your parents wanted to afford one, I really like this name. In fact I named my step daughter Mercedes. I like the meaning of the name which I understand to be merciful is the deity. Also, I love the nickname Sadie.
Mercedes is such a beautiful name and it happens to be my name. I always get so many complements on my name. I love my name and no I was not named after the car, I was named after the Virgin Mary.

This is my name! It was HELL growing up with it, but I like it better now, and it has always been helpful in letting me know in advance who was worth my time--if anyone I'm introduced to cracks a lame car joke (no matter how clever you think you are, trust me, I've heard it) I know not to bother. Some of my friends and family call me "Cedes" for short, which sounds a bit cuter. I have a very hard to pronounce middle name so I never had a choice in what I went by. Only choose this name if your kid has options--or if stiff upper lips run in your family.
This name would be wonderful to give a little girl - and I could definitely see past the brand name of a car. I love 'Cedy' for a nickname (pronounced Sadie).
I love this name (it's my daughter's name). It's graceful and gentle and just perfect. I named her after the characters in Le Comte de Monte Cristo Mercedes Heloise.

This name is so dumb and butt-ugly that I can't even describe how dumb and butt-ugly it really is. Say this name twice, and think about it! Is this a good name? NO.
I really didn't like this name until recently and I still don't like its strong association with the car but I am really liking it now. Although my favourite nickname for it is Merci, I also like the nickname Sadie.
I think this is a beautiful name, both as primary and secondary. It's a shame that the whole "like-the-car" thing taints it.

I love this name. I'm in Spanish classes and we had to pick regular Spanish names for ourselves and I picked this one. Despite the whole car reputation thing, I think its really pretty.
A very beautiful name, but in America, count on the harsher English pronunciation and many "like the car?" comments. I do love this name with the Spanish pronunciation though.
