McKayla can also honor a family surname "McKay." Before dismissing the name as spelled incorrectly, consider the myriad of reasons it could be spelled that way. My daughter McKayla's name has thought, tradition, and family history built into it.
Mc- and Mac- means "son of", which is quite an odd thing to call a female. The exact meaning of this particular name is "son of Kayla".

It does not mean "son of Kayla". Kayla would have to be derived from Gaelic, for that to be true, and McKayla a Celtic surname which it clearly is not. If McKayla can be argued to mean anything, it is the same as Michael does.I think the name is awful. Whoever thought it up should take a mandatory Respect for Language course.
