Diminutive of Maria or Margarita. This was borne by 19th-century Greek actress Marigo Alkaiou (1790-1865) and 19th-century Greek revolutionary Marigo Zarafopoula. Another known bearer was the Albanian patriot Marigo Posio (1882-1932), who is chiefly remembered for making the flag raised by Ismail Qemali during the Albanian Declaration of Independence on 28 November 1912.
