Don’t like the association of Margot Robbie.
Margot is my absolute favourite girl's name! I love everything about it - the sound, the look, the meaning “pearl”, the vintage feel, the fact it can’t be easily shortened…Perfection. This spelling is best in my opinion - Margo is missing something, and Margaux is ridiculous. Margot one of the fastest rising girls names, I hope it becomes less popular by the time I have children. It has a certain shine to it, just like the pearl it symbolises. Timeless yet modern, youthful yet mature…I can find no fault.
To be honest I really dislike the name Margret but I find Margot really pretty. It reminds me of a cute 4 year old girl with orange hair and freckles :)
Love this, it's gorgeous and sly sounding. It would be a fantastic middle name.
I'm not usually a big fan of the names Margaret, Margarita, Marjorie, Margaux, etc. But I must admit that Margot is a more acceptable and pleasant variant. It sounds classic, elegant and is more remarkable than Margaret. A good choice.
I like Margaret better.
My name is Margot and when I was a toddler I used to call myself “Gogo” because it was easier to pronounce. I remember always wanting a traditional name like Emma or Lily when I was younger. My name comes with a lot of struggles as there seems to be a never ending list of mean nicknames that my classmates give me such as; MargoT the apricot, Margot Polo, Margretttt, Margoat and many more. A lot of people have made fun of my name and I used to feel like no one could relate because it is a fairly unique name. Whenever I get a new teacher they seem to mispronounce my name! My dad is French so my parents decided to choose my name as it worked in both English and French. There are lots famous Margot’s like the ballerina Margot Fontaine or Margot Robbie. I do ballet and have been told many times that I have a good show biz name. I have come to love my unique name and I find it powerful but elegant! Did you know that there was once a French queen called Margot!
One of my favourite names! I love how it is both strong and has a soft ending. Can’t think of any good nicknames though.
Somehow reminds me of the word Braggart.
I adore this name. I love the sound of it, so pretty and yet powerful.
I feel like this name ought to be said "Mar-got". Not Mar-go.
Sounds too close to "cargo" and looks too close to "maggot." Almost like someone tried to combine the two words and call it a name. Just an all around bad name, in my opinion. Many people might keep downvoting it, but at least I know I'm just one of MANY people who sees the connection between "Margo" and "Maggot".
Gogo would be an interesting nickname for Margot.
This name has such a classy quality to it. It rolls off the tongue well and reminds me of the type of girl that studies abroad. Whole, universal, Margot!
I’ve always liked this cool, spunky name, but wow, it’s getting popular! For good reason, though! I haven’t met any Margots but would love to meet one!
When I think of the name Margot, I think of Anne Frank’s older sister. Overall, it’s a good name.
Why are all the comments about the name looking like 'maggot' being downvoted? It's true, and a valid reason to dislike it.
It's not overdone like Margaux, it's not underdone like Margo, it's just right and I love it!
Very chic and stylish. It's not the prettiest sounding, but it has a special flare of its own.
No, I don’t like this name. It sounds harsh. There’s so many gorgeous names out there & this isn’t one of them.
My two year old daughter is Margot. We have not had anyone mispronounce her name, and all feedback has been positive. I feel that she can be taken seriously as a Margot no matter what she chooses to do in life. I also like that while it is a name that most people know, it is not overly popular.
I'm really surprised at all of the posts associating this spelling with "maggot," which had never even occurred to me.Margot is my favorite spelling - Margo is boring and looks incomplete to me, and Margaux (even though it's a real place in France) as a name just looks like it's trying way, way too hard to be "cool". But Margot remains classic, and can function well as a first or middle name.
The spelling is far to close to "maggot" for my liking.
Margo is much better than Margot. (maggot) Fair enough if you're from a country with a lot of 'silent t at the end of words' though. In English-speaking countries though, the t at the end tricks the eye. Although, that said, obviously someone isn't going to be called Maggot.
I really do like this name. It sounds traditional, respectable, and unique.
I prefer it spelled Margo, because the T is silent (so why even have it?) and because it looks like "maggot" when spelled that way.
It looks too much like 'maggot'. ;/
I love this name, reminds me of a very good looking woman.
This is my name and I used to HATE it. Substitute teachers would always mispronounce it MAR-gott, and for some reason through elementary and middle school my classmates found that extremely hilarious. Now I don't get teased as much, once people get used to my name, and I think it is unique and powerful, and I love it.
I really like his name - maybe because it's mine. However, most people when reading my name out loud mispronounce it as mar-GOTT.
I don't like this name because it looks too much like maggot. Nice name though.
My name is Margaret and my nickname was always Margot as a child. Margot sounds more powerful and substantial than Maggie and Peggy, which I disliked because they sounded so frivolous.
