I love this name as MY-a or MAH-ya (not sure how to explain the pronunciation but they sound the same when said quickly). It is so beautiful.

Maia is eldest of the seven Pleiades in Greek mythology, and it also means strength or warrior in Maori. I used to want to spell my name with a y instead of an i, but now I'm glad I have the i. Surprisingly I do have mutual friends who have it spelt the same way. All- in- all, I do think it's a cool name.
*starts singing*Ma-ia hii! Ma-ia huu! Ma-ia hoo! Ma-ia haha!Okay. Sorry. I just could not resist. God, I love that song! My mum's singing it right now. And for those of you who care: That part of the song doesn't mean anything. It's just sounds. (The rest of the song is actual Romanian.)Well, it's an okay name, but it will always remind me of that song, as will aeroplanes, white trousers, Picasso, and sunglasses. (Not that this is a BAD thing, mind you.)
